  1. When I went to primary school in the 60s our headmaster had a ruler that he called Mr Swish and he would use it on pupils hands if they misbehaved. It was no good going home telling your parents because they always agreed with the teachers. Nowadays I expect if a teacher says harsh words to a pupil the parents are up the school threatening to punch the teachers lights out it sets a bad example to the children. One thing about my generation it taught us discipline, respect and toughened us up all qualities missing in Britain 2021.
