Britain needs two things urgently energy and cash. I don't know about Britain using the gas from fracking but it could be sold to bring in urgently needed cash. Perhaps its not a long time solution just a short term fix. I think many of the locals would come onside if they got a share of the profiits and of course it would create jobs.

@aaronaaronson7600 The people dismissing fracking will be the same people moaning about their gas bill and cost of living. Fracking might not be perfect but we need to look at all options if we don't want to sit in the dark and cold and paying £200 for a trolley of groceries.

Genuine question would it be any different to living near a factory for example because there are plenty of houses near factories in my area or a motorway?. But I get your point if you already own a home and its built next door it would not be much fun.

@enigma7791 I'm sure there are risks and accidents with all forms of energy. Plenty of people lived near and on top of coal mines years ago, we been deep drilling in the sea for decades, some people live near nuclear plants our regulations are stricter than the US. How many reports of polluted drinking water in reality ( not hearsay on Twitter ) the drilling is done far deeper than the water table so how does it pollute drinking water?.

@wundurra24 Why would anyone want to go back in the single market or customs union the EU got the same problems has Britain even worse in some countries. It was in the news yesterday that in Germany Keyenberg wind park they are removing some wind turbines to develop an open pit coal mine.

@wundurra24 The problem with that is what would the EU want in return?. Britain giving the EU billions every year, freedom of movement which would mean we need even more housing, stretching our services like the NHS even further roads getting even more gridlocked. We have never got to grips with Brexit because too many MPs never backed it even Boris only backed Brexit because he saw it has a way into no 10. We traded with Europe before the EU and we could again if the will was there. Unfortunately many of our MPs probably get EU money in their business interests and I expect some fancy a cushy lucrative job with the EU when they leave Westminster.

Fracking was never a long term fix but it could be up and running in a couple of years so could help in the short term. Boris authorised another nuclear plant but that will be a decade before it produces anything. How long will it be before solar and wind can cope on its own, years I expect especially when millions of vehicles need charging daily.

@enigma7791 In other words not very many. I am old enough to remember the Aberfan coal disaster in 1966 when a coal tip slipped killing 144 mainly children. It was awful and worse than anything thats ever happened with fracking but it was very rare and did not stop us coal mining. I don't really have any thoughts on fracking but in our current situation we should look at all options if we want to keep the lights on and the factories turning out goods to sell. Its desperate times we got to pay back 2 trillion of mainly Covid debt.
