  13. maybe they should look at their traditional architectural styles and make structures using their own local materials, logically placed and organized for their use, and have it use motiffs indicative of the local flora and fauna or actual have actual flora and fauna in the city, A celebration of the body of their nation (ie their unique peoples, geography, and flora and fauna) and spirit (their culture, history, style, mythologies, taboos, traditions, etc) while being functional.

  14. is it just me or is Montreal incredibly ugly because of the highrises that blocks the amazing sighthlines the city would have had and the plethora of brothels it hosts at its entrance, the portal of the city literally feels like entering into one massive ghetto. I visited it twice but both of my stays have been very discouraging and depressing maybe I wasn't able to visit the nicer looking parts of the city. Quebec City on the other hand is quite nice, the entrance of the city is very aesthetic as it hugs the river and opens up to a quaint residential area sporting french colonial architecture reminiscent of the houses you see in vancouver, the portal also host a massive historical park where you see children run around. it was nice.

  15. A beautiful location will intice people to treat the location with some reverence, you don't feel much attachment to an ugly place which means that you don't really care about its maintenance. It also has a moralizing effect, imaging coming home from work and then entering a portal that leads you into a nice and beautiful neighborhood with green courtyards placed in such a way that facilitates human interaction.

"beauty" is not entirely in the eye of the beholder, beauty is not entirely subjective. you can have intersubjectively agreed upon aesthetic aspects that the people will find fulfilling and pleasant to live around. And the reason you can even make a value judgement about ugly "kitch" fakes and ugly post modernists structures is because you actually don't truly believe that beauty is entirely subjective, if you did, you wouldn't even make arguments regarding aesthetics, a believer in aesthetics' subjectivity would find no reason to argue because ultimately, they can just change their perspective and enjoy a structure for what it is if they wish, its only you that is hampering your own ability to like what other's like, right?

  17. ​ @blanco7726  Ofcourse its going to be kitschy if its in China, ITS IN CHINA! traditionalists architecture doesn't mean "copy what the europeans do" it means, looking into the local buildings practices, using local materials, using local motifs and craftsmanship, trying to map how structures are built for the locality climate, and trying to establish a connection to the culture of that locality so there's a sense of continuum and cultural rootedness to the location. In fact, anyone who truly wants a diverse world, should be advocating for traditional architecture revival IN ALL NATIONS so all countries can benefit from the virtous cycle of having their cultures represented beautifully in their dwellings spaces.

  40. first of all, you're from the UK, so lets get that first out in the first place. second of all, being poor doesn't excuse people to live in squalor or ugliness, in fact living in such a way only embeds poverty to those who already find themselves there. You enrich their lives by introducing them into an environment that pushes them to make better and more wholesome choices and that includes having the opportunity to talk to people of differing economic strata. In this way, the rich don't get to hog the beautiful and the poor gets to live in a place that makes them feel like its worthwhile to be part of the community and work in its benefit. And lastly, it is only right that national funds are used to promote the well being of the national people, pemezec said he doesn't allow social housing to foreigners. If you don't believe this, then you don't believe in national government at all.

  41. ofcourse it is a political point of view, all politics are considerations on morality and if you consider beauty as an intrinsic function of architecture, you will come out it believing that ornamentation that evokes positive virtues or are representations of local flora/fauna while also being conducive to the history of a community is important in creating a sense of value and care in a shared space. if you ignore the aesthetic desire of man and their wish to be connected to the long chain of heritage that each community, and when extrapolated, each nation enjoys, then you will constantly be faced with issues of social degradation.

  48. yeah, explosive growth often lead to such messy cities, its normal I suppose but plans ought to be established to create other urban centers away from the original core to relieve the core and also provide the people a less hectic, less crowded, and less expensive yet economically viable alternative. And for the issue of social gathering spaces between march and october, I would suggest alot of shaded areas and alot of trees, maybe find inspiration in traditional architecture in climates similar to that of your locality and follow its design principles but dress it in the style of your own locale.
