By national GOP standards I think Youngkin is quite "meh", but by VA standards he's pretty much exactly what the state needs right now.

@ryanm4281 Yeah, pretty much the only way a Republican would ever win VA again on the presidential level is if it was like a literal Adam Kinzinger vs. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez matchup. And who the hell actually wants THAT?

@texasswade8453 The three problems were ultimately voter "fortification", Trump's own campaign mistakes (namely the fact that he pandered too much to black voters and spent too much time focusing on socialism over globalism), and the fact that TDS is so rampant that even a candidate as godawful and corrupt as Biden still gets massive outpourings of support from leftists.

@texasswade8453 I listed voter "fortification" as one of the reasons Biden won, so I'm not sure why you're telling me a whole bunch of stuff I'm already aware of. But I still think Trump's 2020 campaign was far weaker than his 2016 campaign, and I think in some ways alienated part of his original base with how much he spent pandering to "muh oppressed minority" voters who were never going to vote for him anyway. If Trump does run in 2024, I hope he does return to his populist, anti-establishment rhetoric that won him big time in 2016. Also, in regards to rallies, it is important to remember that many leftists were staying at home last year due to their irrational fear of the coof, and that even though they weren't enthusiastic about Biden, a lot of them still ended up showing up for him anyway because their hatred for Trump overrides all common sense and logic for them. Trust me, as someone who has had to deal with countless TDS leftists both online and offline, I know how these people operate. They'll literally vote for a glass of water with a "D" after its name over Trump!

@dangreene9846 It certainly helps that VA has a lot less radical leftist crazies to get whipped up into a frenzy whenever they hear the word "Republican" than CA does.

@neighborhoodcatlady6094 I mean it's a very blue county, so of course Youngkin isn't going to win there. He just needs to close the gap enough there is all.

@Aeis_Kalt What good Dems are out there? I can legitimately maybe name like a handful that are even halfway decent, and the rest are either completely corrupt, evil or often both!

@Aeis_Kalt I DO acknowledge and commend the few decent Dems out there. Hell, in all honesty, if I lived in SD I'd probably even vote for one of them (Billie Sutton) over Kristi Noem out of protest just because I'm too pissed off at the fact that she's such a corrupt, gaslighting RINO liar! But that doesn't mean I have to like the party as a whole or vote for them at all in almost any other situation. The fact of the matter is that the Dem party itself has become a rotten, anti-American organization, and so no matter what I can't support them. I hate the GOP as well and I agree that too many RINO's and neocons infest it, but really in most circumstances I'd probably just stay home if my only options were a neocon and a crazy a** Dem.

@texasswade8453 Trump did fairly well with Latinos, but I believe exit polls showed he only got 12% of the black vote or something like that, which although a little bit better than his previous 2016 showing is still not a significant amount of black voters in his column. And keep in mind that that was even with many black Republicans getting featured heavily in the RNC, Trump constantly bringing up all the things he was doing to help black people in America, and him even working with Ice Cube on a plan for Black Americans. Even with all of THAT, we still couldn't crack 15% of the black vote last year, which really should tell you something. And again, I'm well aware there was a lot of BS that happened last election, and I personally do believe that without all the "fortified" votes, Trump would've won easily. That's why even here in NV I'm going out and doing my part and pushing for election integrity and trying to get the spineless GOP to actually do their jobs to ensure the nonsense we saw last year never happens again. But even still, pretending that Trump's campaign was "flawless" and that there was absolutely nothing he could've done better is just turning a blind eye. Trump made far too many concessions on issues (namely COVID) and gave the Dems some easy ammunition, and if he runs again in 2024 I hope he doesn't do that again.

@texasswade8453 Also, it's important to keep in mind that our political landscape has changed drastically in recent years. It isn't 2002 or even 2008 anymore. Politics are a lot more polarized today than they were even just a little over a decade ago now, and we're pretty much at a point now in which people who lean even slightly to the left are almost universally in the Democrap column, while people who lean even slightly to the right are overwhelmingly in the Republican column. There really isn't a whole lot of voters nowadays who can actually be persuaded to vote one way or another; we live in times in which pretty much all that is necessary is key base turnout. Elections in which simply running on fearmongering tactics and convincing your key base that your opponent is a devil who will literally wreck anything and everything in America may not have been enough by itself 30 years ago, but in today's climate in which more and more people are cultish, that's sadly all it takes sometimes. We're living in a United States now in which the quality of the candidates and how they run their campaigns matters less and less so long as they're affiliaited with a particular political party, which is really sad to see.

@thurin84 I legitimately don't get why people like you are dooming so much about the CA recall result. Anyone who can see how much of a leftist cesspool the state has become throughout the last 20 years or so and how polarized our current political environment is knew damn well that it was never going to happen in a million years. The only way it would've ever even been a contest is if the GOP hyped up RINO Kevin Faulconer instead of Larry Elder (or hell, if we even so much as threw tons of support towards the Blue Dog Democrat Kevin Paffrath's way), and even then it still may not have been enough. CA's dead. We need to focus instead on preventing other states from turning blue and regaining states we lost in 2020.
