There’s no such thing as the “viking peoples”. Probably the most misused word in a historical context smh.

@WVSCROUNGER My goodness, your comment just screams brainlet. They were Old Norse, Swedish and Danish PEOPLES in the 'viking age'. Vikings were just those who set out in their boats to raid and trade.

@teacupalice When you look at the effort they went through to give them that burial I'd say differently. And just because you put the word 'just' in front of it doesn't suddenly make it irrelevant. Bones were used for a long time for reincarnation rituals, especially the skull. At least in pre-historical Northern Europe.

I think we tend to forget the skill people had in smithing throughout history. They were not some kind of backwards people, they were really good at crafting things by HAND. This is best seen in the golden items that don't decay and in reproductions of iron and steel items. These things are well thought out, probably through hundreds of years of experience through which crafting traditions are shaped.
