Carl John Franz It entirely depends on the context. If you say to someone “well it seems like Africans have a lower IQ on average so maybe that’s why it’s such a shithole there”, is simply an opinion (and I guess also not a projection of an average onto an individual) and it won’t hurt anybody. Also if you meet a person for the first time and he’s black it’s possibly natural for your instinct to say: “He’s probably not that smart”. But if you are say, an employer. And you don’t invite someone over for an interview because you think he’s stupid because of his skin color... That is not okay. Because in the end people ARE individuals and while something maybe true on average, that doesn’t make it true for an individual. So no, it’s actually not perfectly fine to judge an individual based on the group they belong. It’s entirely unjust. And it’s especially damaging when you do this with real individuals you encounter in person. But it is perfectly fine to account for a trend based on a certain distribution of data.

I think there is one issue with Richards mindset. And I think that very mindset may have caused some of the issues in public scientific thought today. He seems to hold this kind of 0 tolerance thought for anyone who doesn't align their thought with his. It's really no valid means to persuade someone. I think if I had to convince Richard himself of something. I'd have to come up to him, start a discussion and show him what I found and then discuss it further. The way he represents teaching people about evolution is almost Jehovian. According to him you're ignorant when you don't align with the evolution theory. (Now before people start bashing me for saying this, personally I believe the evolution theory does quite a good job at explaining how life forms change over time and come to be the way they are). Then you have to teach them and poof they will "believe" in evolution theory. Whatever happened to discussing evidence in such a way that it's REALLY convincing? A lot of left leaning liberals have taken over this arrogance and spit in the face of people that don't "believe in science the almighty god". It turned science sour. And I think it would be beneficial for those people and Dawkins to be a little more aware of the fact that real learning happens by discussing evidence presented in reality. Not, "oh you're so ignorant let me teach you how it REALLY IS". Honestly it just shows of a mental laziness. Maybe he has spoken to people who weren't even willing to listen to him too much. Maybe he's just seen so many things that have been achieved through the scientific method that he grew arrogant. Whichever it is. I think you should change your tactics mr. Dawkins.
