Even a basic knowledge of astronomy makes it fairly clear that flat earth is complete nonsense! Just the simple fact that two people standing a few thousand km apart will see the moon from the exact same phase an angle should be enough to tell you that it can't possibly be a local object like flat earthers say - and if they miss something as glaringly obvious as that, then chances are they're not worth paying any attention to!

  32.  @kye741  As others have pointed out, our current understanding of the heliocentric model (which is our generally accepted without any real doubt to be our physical reality) is that we should see the moon during the day during it's waning stages which is half of it's 29 day cycle. To answer your last couple of questions, in Australia you would see the same thing as you see in England, just at different times. So in other words if the moon is say a waning crescent and seen during the day in Australia, in England you would also see the same phase of the moon and, for all intents and purposes, the same angular distance from the sun.

There are many ways we know beyond any real doubt that we are orbiting the sun, too many to list here, but it has nothing to do with brainwashing and everything to do with what the evidence points to. There is a reason geocentricism was abandoned hundreds of years ago. I'd suggest you look up Cool Hard Logic's excellent series on debunking geocentricism if you genuinely believe in it.

  48. We’ve known earth is a globe for over 2000 years, that’s not exactly a new idea. Apart from the points already raised, if earth was flat we’d see all stars rotating around a single point which would be viewable from everywhere on earth. That’s not even remotely what we observe in reality - we have a two celestial poles, each only visible from either hemisphere - just as you would expect on a globe. I could go on but I’m sure you get the picture.

In the northern hemisphere Polaris sits pretty much bang on the northern celestial pole. So even though flat earthers can’t really agree on a model, they all agree that stars rotate around Polaris. Problem is this only works in the northern hemisphere. Everyone in the southern hemisphere sees the same thing happening in the opposite direction (ie. If they look south at night they see a different set of constellations rotating around the southern celestial pole). This simple observable fact tells us very clearly that flat earth is just a load of nonsense. There, you can stop investigating now. It’s not flat. You’re welcome.

  74. If you take the time to study it, there is nothing about the way we view the moon that doesn’t work on a globe. It definitely doesn’t work on a flat earth though. For a start, if it was local and small like they claim, we’d see it from different angles and phases but that never happens - their entire belief system unravels from that one observation.

Look up the definition of sea level and you’ll get a variety of definitions. Earth’s curvature is rarely taken into account for most practical purposes. You do realise that our planet is quite large don’t you? But there are a instances where it becomes a factor - very large bridges for examples. Besides, if earth was flat then why do we see large objects sink below the horizon the further we get away from them? It seems like a fairly obvious sign that we live on a spherical planet. Otherwise logically we would see them disappear to a point. I’ve never heard a rational counter argument from flat earthers for that.

To name just one method, Earth has been measured in it's entirety as evidenced by the proliferation of international travel and those known distances will only conform a sphere. This is something anyone can check for themselves. There are other methods as well but that is probably the most obvious one. As for whether we have been to space - this evidence you speak of, are you sure it's evidence or just people speculating? If you're going to confidently assert that it's a lie then you need some pretty solid proof to back that up and personally I've never seen anything even remotely resembling that.

The same could be said for any latitude either side of the equator, doesn’t have to be 45 degrees, so long as they are roughly the same coordinates then the flight times will be roughly the same on a globe earth, becoming exponentially further as you move away from the equator. A good example is Atlanta to Los Angeles vs Sydney to Perth, all sitting around 33 degrees. Yes, you are absolutely right. However I have tried making this point many times only to be met with attempts to change the subject or just crickets.

There are thousands of timelapses showing the midnight sun in Antarctica - I’ve got a few on my channel actually - no one has debunked them. Just saying “that’s fake” isn’t debunking. Antarctica sees around 30,000 visitors each year, most of whom visit in the summer. There are thousands of anecdotal accounts of the midnight sun - are you really going to suggest that they’re all lying?

But besides that, my main point is that you can't prove that God doesn't exist any more than you can prove that he can. But it's trivially easy to prove that flat earth is a load of nonsense if you look at it with any sort of intellectual honesty. To go back to what you were saying about religion, I don't think a society where we tell people what they can and can't believe is a very healthy one. I would say the same for flat earthers - I think it's ridiculous and I love to poke holes in their stupid theory but it's not up to me to tell anyone what they should believe. When you start claiming something is fact when there is no proof for it then that's a different ball game. But say what you will about Christians or whatever, churches actually do a lot of good that isn't necessarily broadcasted. I'm not a Christian myself but I have close ties with a local church where I live and they do a lot of good things both locally and abroad, particularly with youth, the poor and the vulnerable. They don't advertise that but there is a lot of good that they and many churches do behind the scenes that most people aren't aware of.

The simple fact that everyone in the Southern Hemisphere who looks south at night will see the same constellations rotating around the same point is enough to completely eliminate any possibility of flat earth being true. If anyone wants to prove earth is a sphere, all they have to do is take two points in the northern hemisphere, note the distance between them, then find two points in the Southern Hemisphere with corresponding latitude and longitude and see if the distances match. If they aren’t wildly different - and they won’t be - then earth is a sphere.

And yes, everyone is the Southern Hemisphere can see the southern cross is the same direction, circling around the same point - this fact alone destroys any infantile delusions about living in a frigging snow dome! We have the internet to thank for that. Having said that, I suspect a large proportion of so-called flat earth believers are actually just trolling. Genuine believers just don’t have the basics of scientific education to discern fact from fiction and likely have an emotional attachment to their belief system rather than one based on rational thought. As for whether flat earth was engineered as a way of discrediting conspiracy theories or whether it was an organic development is impossible to say but if it was engineered then it was very successful.

Why would I need to debunk the globe when it clearly explains a whole host of observations. It’s the only model that stands up to scrutiny. They altered their search algorithm so that misinformation channels don't appear on people's recommended viewing lists which is why when you search for flat earth you see debunking channels only. The majority of those videos are still there, you just need to look a bit harder. The only reason flat earth channels are getting removed is if they're breaking Youtube policy guidelines - hate speech for instance or COVID misinformation which may be deemed potentially harmful. Slight change of subject, ask yourself this - if the moon is a small, local object why is it that we only see if from one angle? If it's close, two people standing a few thousand kilometers apart would see it from noticeably different angles but this never happens. The moon is always seen from the exact same angle no matter where it's viewed from. Does this make any sense to you?

One of the most obvious is that we know the distance between any two points on Earth, verified every single day by a massive intercontinental transport network that relies on those navigational coordinates being correct, and those distances will only conform to a globe. It’s that simple. You can easily check this for yourself by comparing flight times with two locations at similar latitudes either side of the equator. They will always be roughly the same. Why do you think no flat earther has ever produced a simple 2D map? It’s because they know it’s not possible and whenever backed into a corner to explain that you will always get a tirade of excuses. There are other ways as well but that’s one of the most obvious. All this flat earth stuff is complete nonsense. Basically their only playing card is the fact that sometimes you can see further than than is geometrically possible but this is assuming light travels in a straight line when we know that it doesn’t. The whole flat earth movement is underpinned by pretending that atmospheric refraction of light doesn’t exist. If you’re sitting on the fence I recommend you stop watching flat earth videos and maybe watch some good debunking videos - Cool Hard Logic does a good job of highlighting how all the maths doesn’t add up. Professor Dave Explains also does a good job of highlighting how ridiculous the whole thing is.

But I know of at least two ISS astronauts that have published photo books of Earth from low earth orbit, all taken with a normal camera. A lot of these photos are easily viewable online (maybe not the originals but you can always buy the book).

  385. Richard Howlett a couple of years ago I had the pleasure of watching the ISS go past through some pretty decent binoculars, enough to make out it’s distinctive shape. I used a website which calculated its orbital trajectory to tell me, based on my location, precisely when it would appear and exactly where to look. Hundreds of thousands of people have done this. So there is really no doubt that the ISS is a satellite orbiting the Earth. As for whether people are on there or not, well when there is some actual evidence that they’re not then I will take that into consideration. Until then, I have no reason to think otherwise. It helps not being retarded, you should try it some time.
