Now that is more like reality as I see it. Thatcher left behind a few legacies and the complacent acceptance even denial amongst some politicians of high unemployment - a necessary evil as Norman Lamont put it - an evil which has been matched not coincidentally by the widespread prevalence of drugs. Unless of course anybody believes all the gimmick policies and job creation - what growth industry have we got to boast of exactly - Steel being an excellent example to the contrary. That Boris Johnson whom I see as a big improvement on May and Cameron (which isn't saying much I know) has finally led conservative inroads to the north east I put largely down to him finally delivering brexit, it will be interesting to see how society develops or continues to regress but surely he has to follow this up. They really do need to stop coming out with claptrap like 'Northern Powerhouse' and HS2 which is hardly going to stop anywhere. Better to focus on re-opening some of the old lines closed through the Beeching report where feasible and I think you might see an improvement in the British spirit. It is going to take something special when we come out of the Coronavirus pandemic. I don't currently see a political party in the UK which has any such degree of will. You only have to take a trip to the supermarket to see just how much notice of politicians some people don't take. The part I focussed on from Tim was his comments re: career politicians.

Our police force wasn't perfect before Margaret Thatcher came along but I think she did it a great deal of damage to the point a lot of people would have preferred her to have ruddy well not meddled with it.

@cliverichards6282 That is very understandable on your part but if he was open about that I doubt he'd have been around for long.
