@yussefthe3rd Well I am a pretty far rightwinger. And I was the one who locally, pushed through changes to regulations to allow shops to open on sundays and from 18.00 maximum to 22.00 maximum. But that's especially why I oppose this sort of stuff. We must all be free to pursue happiness. Can't do that if your economy operates on a deregulated free-for-all where ruthless exploitation like obligatory work at night for the same wage, is normal, or even allowed. There needs to be degrees and balance in all things. With high social costs and no real reason to be open at night, it's something I can't justify. While I can for example justify that people with fulltime jobs are able to shop at all, since supermarkets aren't forced to close at 18.00 (which was a thing in the 1990s). If such things such as working nights can be enforced due to a lack of regulations, economic freedom is infringed upon and companies start dictating people's lives. It's been a couple years since I was in China but I was pretty shocked to see delivery drivers quickly eating on the roadside, or builders who start work before I get up, and are still closing up the build site after I go back to my hotel at night when I'm dead tired.

Being Dutch I'm really happy that we don't have this. Wanting to be open all day and night comes at a huge cost to the people who work there and to retail prices. Wanting to shop in the middle of the night is a dumb idea of which the social costs are simply too high. Mega-corps may want it and maybe some silly sausages feel the need to do their shopping after 22.00 or before 8.00, but there are some things you must simply prevent from happening. Much to the culture shock of some. I remember ferrying some bread to a Japanese exchange student in my university class who discovered to his shock that the the supermarket closed at 20.00, and every 7th day of the week it didn't open at all. For a guy from Tokyo used to ruthless exploitation of employees leading to 24/7 supermarkets, that was quite a (hungry) shock. 😆
