The issue of Russia annexing parts of Ukraine has become irrelevant though. Because after a referendum by Arjan Lubach showed 100% of Russians wanted it, the Netherlands annexed Russia on the 1st of october. Now we just figure out a new name for Dutch Russia.... Rustrecht? Rusterdam?

@Allah_the_molester Plus all players on the table are happily handing Ukraine all the best cards that they get dealt. So Putin's not just playing against Ukraine, but effectively against the world.

@codycast It would be akin to Hitler making a speech in 1942 going "Yeah, I got it wrong. Jews are fine. The British win this one. I can haz peace, pretty please?" He'd be dead, killed by his cronies from the system he created. And Hitler had basically 5-6 years to brainwash Germans with a democratic tradition of resisting this. Putin has had 15 years to brainwash Russians with a tradition of obediently bowing to brainwashing. Putin can't do anything but win, or he dies. So the interests of Putin and Russia are currently opposites.

Plus Russia made a crucial error by instantly deploying their Russky Mir state ideology and setting up concentration camps / 'filtration camps' to exterminate all Ukrainians not deemed fit to be 'russified'. Putin has revealed his own 'Generalplan Ost' for the Ukrainians already, before he achieved victory: If Putin wins, Ukrainians as a people will cease to exist through a combination of extermination and russification. This means for the Ukrainians, the outcome of defeat is death. People who will surely die upon defeat, fight until the last. On a demographics level, that level of mobilisation will mean Russia will need to kill at least 3-4 million Ukrainians on the battlefield out of a population of 42 million. The 138 million or so Russians left after the recent escapes from the country have trouble producing even a million that are fit to fight. The attacker needs a ratio of 3 to 1 to really punch through and fight effectively. Let's be generous and grant Russia that it will magically win at 2 to 1. This means Putin needs to forcibly conscript, arm and train 6-8 million Russian soldiers. These simply do not exist under Russia's current way of doing things. So this would already require re-organising Russia to a full war economic and total mobilisation. But this is politically impossible. There also isn't enough to equip these 6-8 million. This would require going soviet and having full economic mobilisation. But nobody in Russia wants that.
