A belly landing should not result in departing the runway at a high rate of speed and slamming into a berm. Something else must have been wrong or those pilots were terrible. Why didn't they dump fuel and go to an airport with a longer runway? Did they touch down at the beginning of the runway? How could they misjudge so badly the distance they would need to come to a stop?

@lisamareeaccary5132 You don't have to be a pilot to wonder how a bird strike would prevent the gear from lowering. Very odd.

Now I`m wondering if maybe one of the engines was still producing thrust. Maybe they thought it was in reverse but it couldn't open because it was on the ground. Starboard engine appears to be in reverse but I can't tell if the port engine is.

@jamesadams893 There are lots of runways that have water, ravines, cliffs, highways, roads, blast fences, gas stations etc that you would hit if you overran the runway at this speed. Not having breakaway navigation equipment is not good though.
