  15. Poll tax was not a fairer system at all! It was legal robbery. We bought a house in a tiny village in Lancashire in the 80s, and the old rates under Labour were £50 a year! Cheaper than most because there were very little amenities with it being out in the sticks! We could afford that, working and with 2 young children at that time. Then in comes Thatcher with the dreaded poll tax, and our £50 per year rates went up to "£1000 EACH" for me and my husband. To say it was a struggle is putting it mildly. We both had to work extra hours to cover it. What an absolute disgrace to put that on working families, even now I can't stand to hear her name! Horrible woman. 🤬😡

  18. There's a government petition online to close all boarders for 5 years. Personally I'd close boarded for good, but I'm not in charge! So 5 yrs is better than nothing. It needs at least a hundred thousand signatures, so get signing everyone.

  25. Speaking for myself, respect is only for ww1 ww2. Our forces who fought to defend our freedoms and our country against foreign aggression, ended after 1945. From then on they only ever illegally invaded other countries! (usually because of oil and other resources) And never in defence of our country.

  26. A few years ago in my small lancashire town, a Muslim councillor tried to get a Palestinian flag erected on the town hall. They refused his request and sacked him! And rightly so. Wonder if they'd be able to stop and dismiss him in this present climate?

Apparently one had to be the poorest of the poor to be allowed to leave Ireland at that time. He came to England worked and worked on the railways as a start. Ended up doing well for himself by buying a farm. (And no slaves involved).
