@julieevans2848My grt grt grt grandfather on my maternal side, managed to get out of Ireland at the Start of the potato famine. Apparently one had to be the poorest of the poor to be allowed to leave Ireland at that time. He came to England worked and worked on the railways as a start. Ended up doing well for himself by buying a farm. (And no slaves involved).

@therightarmofthefreeworld4703 During my family tree research I came across a direct ancestor on my dad's side, who was in a Manchester news item, for his part in helping to stop the slave trade! He got petitions going and all sorts.
