Yes, you could totally get away with calling this a "Garand made of worse metal"

The French did what they could with the quality of metal they had. I think it's interesting and striking to look at, if not beautiful. But I'm biased

I have an RSC. If there's a bullet in the chamber, you can simply replace the clip with a full new one and go on shooting (with 6 total rounds instead of 5)

Any number of factors, really. Wood generally tends to darken over time, but staining by mud, water, and oils can also affect the woods color.

It feels strange to fire. You get two separate impulses: The initial one when the cartridge is fired, and a second one when the bolt hits the rear-most part of its travel. Recoil is gentle yet firm, and very comfortable to shoot. Source: I have one and shot it.

It's gay right up until you get shot by it. I'm sure soldiers facing it really gave a shit about how it looked.

Mondragon was the first to be accepted by any military. As for first semi-auto design in general? Wikipedia seems to think it was the Mannlicher 85, but the 85 appears to be a dismal failure

The safety is on the left side of the rifle, and is a lever with 180 degree throw. Forward position is Safe, rearward is Fire. Like this: http://www.vhu.cz/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/RSC-1917-2.jpg

He means the actual clip style, not the style of operation.

I do want to get outdoors and make a nice video of me shooting mine. One day. I don't live near any nice open land at the moment and the indoor ranges don't allow video capture
