US foreign bases. Very misleading. Most have under 1,000 troops. Peru, for instance, hosts 2 bases with a total of 46 troops. Yes Taiwan nearly doubled the US troops there. From 20 to 39. Big deployments are what you'd expect. Japan, Germany, SK. Those 3 are the vast majority. Hell, if you leave out those 3 countries I bet Apple has a greater overseas deployment than the US military.

@tray3120 My point is that when someone says base it brings up a certain image. Most of these don't rise to that. Every base I've been on had significantly more than 1,000 people. They're small towns.

You just nailed it. Who besides a select few countries appreciates it? As an American I say we support them (those select few) and everyone else can fend for themselves.

@Sundain Mea Culpa. I need to increase my font size. 😁 Nevermind.

@brandonhernandez116 Didn't say anything about isolation or abandoning the world. Those are your words. I was quite specific. If a country wants and appreciates a relationship with the US, great. Otherwise, good luck. We don't need them and they don't deserve our largesse. The fire as you put it will never reach us. There's no one with that capability.

That's an interesting analysis of WWII. So it only took a month to roll back the Nazi's from Normandy and Moscow? I was taught it took longer. Or was it a stalemate that whole time?

@brandonhernandez116 Recall the circumstances leading to both WW's. Specifically Japan and Germany. They're not starting anything any time soon. The only viable belligerents today are Russia and, to a much lesser extent, China. Both have massive problems of their own. There won't be a world war. There WILL be wars. Obviously it's already started. Globalization has led to the rise of countries like China and Russia and the collapse of said will lead to their fall (already happening). What happens after this, I'll call it a shaking out, is what we should focus on. Trying to maintain the status quo which brought us to today is a bad idea. It allows them to continue and, honestly, they shouldn't. Not to mention the fact that it's already too late. We've already left. We don't even have a CBG in the Arabian Sea anymore. That or Taiwan is the next area of conflict.

@brandonhernandez116 If anything the US constantly underestimates it's abilities. No nation, ever, in any time has been able to do what we can do. No nation today even comes close. That's just reality.
