@waimoo1 The fact you think that UAV's will replace boots on the ground means you are being naive. You are probably one of those that thinks that drones will nullify naval warfare. Kinnet warfare is real and it still exists. Drone warfare still requires boots on the ground to carry out various operations. A heavily fortified position cannot be taken out with air power on its own.

British Commandos would run rings around them.

What Britain needs is standard Marines and then to make Royal Marine Commandos part of a special operations command. Standard marines could be used for amphibious operations and save RMC for unconventional exercises.

@Drew Peacock SFSG is not special operations it is a support structure for special forces and that is even hinted at in the name. Royal Marine Commandos are not standard marines their training and structure is that of a special operations group without the actual recognition of that. Special operations is a military group capable of carryout out unique and unconventional warfare. There was one point that SBS were not considered special forces as the designation did not exist.

@waimoo1 SBS are elite clandestine special forces with a very specialized role in unconventional warfare. There numbers are extremely low and the training pipe line is one of the most complex in the world. They simply could not be used effectively to carry out unconventional warfare in a large continental war due to the fact their numbers are so low to begin with. The US has about 70000 special operation's active in its command and if you compute that number to the UK that means the UK should have about 14000 special operations personnel. The UK does not have 14000 SAS, SBS or SRR. By the way my argument is not a UK special forces vs special operations. It is about creating a special operations command structure to encompass elite groups like RMC and Para.

@waimoo1 Drones are something people who play video games bring up. Royal Marines Commandos do not need transforming they need to be unleashed and their needs to be a command structure that takes full advantage of the abilities of Para and Commando forces.

@Drew Peacock "Re-read" your statement and it still makes no sense. SFSG are not special operations they are there to provide support to special forces.
2
@Drew Peacock I never said RMC are special forces under current UK operations. My point is that Britain needs special operations where its elite units come under that command. Britain's special forces is an actual role and is not comparable to the term being used in other countries.

@Drew Peacock Royal Marine Commandos have history and earned its reputation through warfare not silly jokes about pop books. I am only stating the obvious Royal Marine Commandos has nearly 8000 personnel that are in their own right a special operations group but do not get the classification. SAS and SBS are an elite clandestine unit and are not the same as US special Operations.
