The US would not be tracking individual lanches what they would be doing is watching for atmosphere effects such as thermal signals. The idea that Russia can launch low travelling nuclear missiles that can travel across the ocean at hundreds of feet of atmosphere is nothings short of ridiculous. They have to use high altitude launches that descend and those would stand out like a sore thumb. Russia's real threat is that they can launch from submarines but that is a complex procedure on its own. Britain has a much better aerospace industry and even they struggle with submarine launches.

@HedgehogZone Poland has its reserves full up, has built in LNG infrastructure at great cost and also has a new gas pipeline from Norway and is also developing new trade with other countries. While Poland is still exposed to potential risk from Russian Energy it is nowhere near as exposed as Germany and several other European countries.
30
America is unique as It has the world's largest single consumer market, deep resources, market economy and competition between the states.
28
@fallencielo2701 There is no body in the US congress that wants to invade Mexico. That is just nonsense. There are members who want the cartels dealt with but that is in context with working with Mexico. Taking snippets of statements made in the heat of the moment is not the same as policy.
26
@MASARU Hamamoto Afghanistan was not a war for the US it was a minor battle that was won by its special forces. Are you implying leaving the country was losing a war?
22
That may have worked 50 years ago where precision and detection was nowhere near what it is today. Having missiles today that require high altitude launch and descend would stand out like a sore thumb. Such systems can easily be tracked by laser with other exotic methods and the Russians have to know this as well.

The US has thousands of trillions of assets and about $200 trillion of liabilities. What most do not understand is that the QE does not change any of that. If there was no US there would be no world reserve currency and their would be economic chaos. Post WW2 the stepped up and used it wealth to act as a security for a world currency. Most people seem to think that the US were lucky in somehow getting this "priviledge" but the reality is being a world reserve currency actually takes away from US growth.

It really only needs India, Japan, Taiwan and South Korea working together. When they are combined they have far more power than China has. You could not name one product that is native to China that is used outside of China.
17
The US is not that exposed to China. The US has more trade with Mexico than it does with China. When Mexico and Canada are combined as a trade enity trade is twice that of China. I think people are confusing the mass production of cheap plastic junk from China with all economic activity.
14
People said the exact same thing before WW1 that there was too much trade between the nations. People are starting to realize that trade does not guarantee peace. Every single period of major war right back to the Punic wars had periods of strong trade before them and it did nothing to stop the wars.
13
The US is a designed political system that makes it very difficult for politicians to mess up. They may talk about it but never are they allowed to achieve it.
13
Mexico GDP has grown by 50% in the last few decades and that is only starting to accelerate. Blaming the US for mexico problem is typical nonsense.

Oil heating requires electricity to operate the pumps and ignition system. Do you have a stove that can build solid fuels.
9
Winds is not viable for continental Europe and neither is solar. Some places like Norway have unique geography that allows hydro build outs and Denmark for wind but that is not going to power the whole of Europe. The reality is that natural gas and oil are the only viable energy systems at present.
9
It would be good against smaller military forces due to the large scale but when it comes a well trained military based on western culture it would get destroyed even if that military is several times smaller. Japan for example would wipe the floor with them on every level.
9
@jont2576 The vast majority of Chinese still live in rural poverty.
9
@alexejII South Korea has no choice in the manner. It would be conquered by China in seconds if it was seen to be weak. Russia is not China and should not be confused with China. India is currently right now at loggers with China because of the communist expansion that is taking place. You can try and pretend this is not happening but it is.

US weapons design and manufacture is based on the culture of the country which is about high levels of quality at vast scales. The US has been producing about 7 million cars per year for the last 60 years. And produces many thousands of high tech machines, aircraft, satellites and home entertainment. That all comes from culture.
7
Military culture cannot just be introduced on a whim and has to take generations to develop.
7
@networkgeekstuff9090 Hydrogen has complex storage issues.
7
If they can find an industrial use for the waste material that would be revolutionary. I suspect with new developments in space technology they may be able to transports several tons of it into space and sent it towards saturn.
7
The way forward for Australia is to embrace a market economy like the US. Australia has everything it needs to function on its own. Modern coal plants could supply electricity to the cities and also be used as the backbone of the industrial system. Natural gas and oil could then fill in the gap. Australia does have a demographic issue coming down the line in that it current has a large population bulge in the 20 to 40 year old age demographic but has a smaller under 20 demographic and will need immigration to plug that gap but with immigration being a tough hurdle both political and immigrant quality challenged there will be bumps in the road.
6
Nuclear weapons and oil.
6
@michaelginsberg9101 Austria did not want anything. They just capitulated when Germany started to become an aggressor. France did the exact same thing.
6
New Zealand is a welfare state and the political culture of New Zealand is formed around that ideology. That is the limiting factor of New Zealand. New Zealand should have a native clothing manufacturing industry that should be world famous but alas it does not have that.
5
Here is another question if China does invade Taiwan and is successful do you think they will stop at that?
5
Coronavirus cannot be managed. Comparing figures from one place to another means absolutely nothing whatsoever.
5
@Shane Septon That is pure nonsense. You stated that "Americans largely lack unless they are more well-to-do" That is pure horse dirt at best. Median income in the US is $60,000 with one in three incomes being in excess of $100,000, 90% of the US population has insurance coverage, median retirement income is $70,000 with the median retirement fund being $1.5 million. Everything you have stated is nonsense.
5
You cannot force Europe to be like the US with a single market. It is a dream or fantasy that cannot be achieved.
5
@inomo People keep bringing up ASML but they do not understand that it is based on US industry not European industry. The US government gave them permission to buy smaller US companies and US patents. There cutting edge laser technology for example is completely US based.
5
@this_is_japes7409 ASML are a holding company and are made up of smaller America companies who the US government gave permission to be sold to ASML because the US has the idea that by allowing trade and prosperity to expand world wide that it would create a more stable world. Hence why the US helped China to set up an expand.
5
@cedricdellafaille1361 Ireland is nothing like Panama so people need to stop with the stupid comparisons. Ireland is a European state with lower taxes and lower regulations when it comes to corporations. So while it is true that apple has a tax base in Ireland it also employs about 10000 people in Ireland.
5
@edwardkim8972 Koreans, French, US, British and German are all working to build that capabilities. Koreans are starting to develop their own weapons industry towards that of international trade. Europe as a whole is about to go through a rearming period.
5
Europe has its own reserves but is too lazy to tap into it. Clean coal plants are also a option for europe.
4
You are assuming that Russia is thinking about this economically and rationally.
4
Africa is not a consumer market and will never replace the western consumer market.
4
@hurrdurrmurrgurr That is nonsense.
4
Median US income is $70000 per year which is liable for about 12% tax and in Europe that income would be taxed at near 50%. It is impossible in Europe to set up a small business and grow it.
4
Nope you are just making stupid excuses. Volkswagen has 600,000 employees and a revenue of €250 billion. This is typically the mind of those that exist in the EU looking for excuses as to why the American market is more successful than those of European countries. In WW1 America had a market that was 10 times larger than that of the UK.
4
There is also the fact that Europe still needs to keep its own defence industries active. The requirements of European defence will mean that they will need Korean weapons as well as European weapons. Sometimes it is more expensive to develop weapons at home but some times that expense is worth it.
4
@archimedes2261 The US was like that 100 years ago are you thinking it is something new? Go and watch the movie Gangs of New York if you want to see internal messy politics and melting pot. The 40 million Mexicans who call them self Latino in America see them self as Americans. Most black people in America see them self as American very few would be interested in Africa, Europe or Asia. The US has seen all of this before.
4
No the wealth is not based on house valuations it is based on median income levels. Everywhere is facing inflation because of the supply chain disruptions that occurred and the over reliance on Chinese manufacturing of junk. Australia has everything it needs from Coal, Iron ore, Copper, alumina and large vast landscape to develop its industrial base. With modern industrial systems Australia could be an industrial powerhouse on a par with the likes of Germany only it would have all its own raw ingredients to tap into.
3
Australia is an island with everything that it needs to function on its own. It just needs to get its head out from underneath it self. What Australia needs to embrace a market economy approach. To copy what the US has done in its history. The biggest problem I see is that Australia has the labor party that is heavily integrated with the media and that will hold Australia back.
3
Most Americans do not look down on other countries. Very few westerners would actually know anything about Singapore other than it is Asia. Most Europeans do not even know anything about Switzerland or Luxembourg other than they are in Europe.
3
When you view things rationally yes that would be the conclusion but is there rational thinking behind any of this or is it about something else.
3
That is the thing about war it bring a nation together like nothing else.
3
@Suksass The oil does when it is combined with Nuclear weapons. Without the oil their now why they would exist as a country.
3
Nuclear weapons are mechanical systems that require maintenance. And the skills required to achieve that cannot just be done at will. Such a culture of science and technology has to be developed over decades. And then there was always the question how well did they work in the first place. It is one thing to set off a nuclear reaction and another to have an operational warhead.
3
The probably have systems that work but not enough for full nuclear exchange. Nuclear weapons have been way overhyped.
3
China would have a big challenge in trying to carryout a naval invasion. Taiwan has a large defensive airforce and a large ground troop that would make invasion extremely difficult for China.
