@Chas G The reason you think that is because you have a more romantic notion of European countries which in part has been pushed by American media. You will see it in films were they will present Europeans as this culturally diverse group that travel between their countries. In reality most Europeans do not travel and are not aware of other cultures. The most common type of travel in Europe is a 2 week vacation in Spain which is the equivalent of somebody in the US going to Florida, Caribbean Islands or Mexico. Peter is talking about Geopolitics and the only country on earth that offers protection to other countries is the US. If it was not for the US the European continent would now be the USSR and Asia would be the People's Republic.

Turkey's issue is not the Kurds it is the PKK.
2
It may walk like a duck, quack like a duck but swims like a plastic toy. We all may know what is going on but that is not proof.
2
The US is not printing extra currency to make it self rich it is doing so to make sure there is enough in supply. The great depression happened because the federal reserve was too conservative and it led to a situation where money in the economy was in short supply.
2
I do not believe that to be the case. Well educated women have families as well. The problem is the economic state and technological society has removed the reality of nature and environment form most peoples world view. Most people are apathetic to the realities of the world. Most do not even know where their food comes from or their energy.
2
The biggest problem is extracting them from the devices in an efficient manner.
2
The russians have built their energy export market around the easy distribution market such as Europe. To try and send that oil to Asian to make up for that loss is going to be 5 times more expensive. Which in turn will drive up the cost of the oil to the consumer which will not be cheaper.
2
Sort of but hard to know if it would exactly play out the same.
2
It is either a political overreaction to crazy acrtivist or it is a real coup d'etat.

@Cas8228 What the US needs is more technical workers who have vocational training rather than academic training in a university. There are business that will need high end academic engineers and scientists but most workers will not be that. The sorts of workers the US will need is high school graduates who have work based apprenticeships and technical qualifications to go with that. Those people will be educated in fields like controls systems, power systems, manufacturing computer systems, wiring techniques and so on. The US has a large number of people that can do that sort of work but it takes time to build that which I think the US can manage to do. One year of vocation work based training would produce a skilled worker and after several years that individual would be an expert.
2
@MarcosElMalo2 Yes and that means it is not easily transported. The cost of transport will drive up the cost of Chinese production by a factor of 50. That means it will not be competitive nor will it be stable for economic growth.
2
Nonsense.
2
Nope. That is not going to help them function for industrial output. Both the Taiwanese, Korean and Israeli semiconductor industry is functioning through US industry.
2
From the US.
2
If they were not so aggressive and dangerous they would be allowed to continue developing on the backs of Western industry and science.
2
@vision2080 He is not a fan of Trump or Biden but will look at what they do and praise some of it and criticize others efforts that are not good.
2
It is simple China has no microchip industry and just has a series of plants that are based on investments. None of this is complex and does not require what you think matches up.
2
@dickthung945 It is more than just knowing and learning and requires that time to build out infrastructure, education and a creative industry that grows. There are several deep industrial areas that have to be developed to achieve what the US has done.
2
@Timo-qb1gf Yeah strip mining all that copper is really cheap and friendly to the environment. More like 100 tons of displacement.
2
Grain storage is complex at best.
2
It does not matter if you think Biden is fit or not they choose him over Trump. And will probably do the same again no matter what we think. If Republicans put DeSantos up for election then that would be a different story.
2
It is a more hands off government. It shows that a state does not need everything to be micromanaged. So in texas county commissioners, councils and mayors have more power. Revenue to run those services is done through property taxes.
2
You missed his point Javelins are not part of the US military backbone things like Helicopters, fighter jets, carriers and tanks are. The US even has the ability to convert tanks over to being missile launchers as it was previously explored. Even Humvees can be fitted out to take on tanks especially since several Humvee style trucks would cost the same as a tank but that does not mean they can replace a tank.
2
@QuizmasterLaw Russia integration with the EU was always a fantasy of the Europeans but was never a reality. Neither was NATO membership. It was not to say that Russia could not be brought into the fold at some point but they as a culture rejected all such ideas with their own decisions.
2
Russia's problem right now is not that it lacks troops but it lacks the ability to deploy them without it calling for total war. That will be a one time deal that they will not be able to easily call up again. Putin has chess pieces on the board but does not want to use them but that presents its own problems.
2
I do no think it matters that much to be honest. It is just sabre rattling.
2
Demographics and economics are effectively one in the same. Demographic collapse is going unravel most of the world's major economies and that in turn will feed back into the demographic collapse.
2
Europe's energy crisis is not about people dying from cold. It is about their industries not being able to manufacture at the same cheap prices as before. Germany is clearly going to be impacted by this the most. Germany industry is going to see a 8 fold increase in the base cost of its industrial energy inputs. And that is being optimistic at best. That does not mean that their products will cost 8 times more when manufactured but it will put a significant cost on he production of a product. So a German car that cost €50000 and look attractive and luxurious may still keep that luxurious standard but all of a sudden it may cost €55000.
2
The problem in Europe has never been about heating homes or dying from cold. It has always been about industrial processes namely in Germany but also other locations.
2
None of that will help industry deal with the gas supply decline. There is just no other outcome when Russia is not supply the gas. The reason why Russian gas has been used was due to its being cheap. LNG and build other gas lines is not cheap nor will it keep prices down.
2
Phoenix is one of those places that could use solar power to feed into the cooling system that houses use so that the main grid is not under as much load.
2
Harsh? US birth rate goes up and down based on various factors. In the late 1970s US birth rate was 1.8 but but by the 1980s it was above 2 and stayed that way for nearly 25 years. German birth rate for the last 40 years has stayed below 2. Facts do not care about our feelings.
2
Not at all. US industry is going to need IT people to run their systems. Especially manufacturing centers. Those machines use networking and operation systems to both control and monitor outputs. Even a building system today uses control systems. The key to success is to be flexible and to try and multidisciplinary your self. Your CS background could be the basis of that. There is nothing stopping you from adding a few extra career sets in their such as electronics, electrical systems or even mechanical systems. One of the big growth areas is electromechanical systems and that will be needed more than ever as US manufacturing is built out.
2
@gviehmann Take that with a pinch of salt. There is always a cover story.
2
It is not a stop gap and will be part of the Japanese missile defence system.
2
The satellites act as a primary intelligence that then allows the drones to move into an area and get real time firing data.
2
@papasmurf9146 Ukraine was never considered to be part of NATO. It was a story that constantly gets brought up over and over but was never a reality. If Russia does not win this war it will now be surround on the western front by NATO.
2
South Korea would maul North Korea in a war. It would be worse than what the Russians are facing in Ukraine. The technological difference between South and North is of such a level as comparing the US today with Europe in the 1940s. The gap is that wide.
2
@andrewmunro5915 Denmark, Sweden, Norway, UK, Ireland, Australia, Argentina, New Zealand, France and US all have ok demographics. Outside of that most of the west is facing a demographic collapse.
2
Australia has a higher number of 25 to 45 year olds than it does 45 to 65 year olds and it is quite a significant difference as well.
2
So can you explain what you mean.
2
One of Russia allies today is China but they simply are not able to help them.
2
@waynesworldofsci-tech I do not disagree with much of what you have stated. I simply do not trust the numbers coming out of Russia.
2
We can all guess how bad they are but we do not know. Russian nuclear arsenal may not be as active or capable as people think but who would really want to test that?
2
It maybe too early to say that as of yet so caution needs to be used in expectations.
2
@FoxtrotYouniform I think it is a lot more than email servers and that they must have human intelligence as well.
2
He is trying to offer caution because we do not know exactly what Russian capabilities are.
2
They are when certain types of products are to be made with the steel.
2
He is not saying that he is saying it will play its part in certain parts of the US where it is either windy or sunny. The basis of US cheap energy is natural gas.
2
But no industry to develop steel. If Australia could get its head out it could really achieve something but will time be on its side.
