Russian culture has a desired to have an empire that stretches from the Bering Sea to the Atlantic. In their mind that is the only way they can be safe and secure in their position. Russia has always had that desire going back centuries. Whether it was the Tsars or Salin it always had one mind set of expansion. If Ukraine falls Europe need not be under no other impression that Russia is going for broke. Russia will not settle with just plugging the gap at Poland.

@giovanni-ed7zq Lottering munitions would probably be more effective as they would provide data of enemy positions but also lead to more accurate targeting. In a large scale offensive the ability to target accurately with information is key. Drones can start to make artillery warfare as accurate as missile warfare.

The difference this time is that Germany is not fighting the Anglo World like it did in WW2. The reason why Germany could not push beyond operation Barbarossa was due to them fighting a war on too many fronts. Part 2 would be completely different with the full might of modern German industry being used to build a European wide military effort and with French and British industrial power chipping in as well. I think we all know where the world is heading.
2
Nope that is not what happened. Germany was never going to choose sides with Russia because Germany full well knows it would be junior partner and as such could be invaded at a later date.
2
The economic collapse is going to happen over the coming decade. Spinning up its existing industry to a war economy is completely different.
1
That would then feed into the Russian narrative of the West arming Ukraine.

@giovanni-ed7zq Tanks are mobile and artillery is not. Russian Artillery can be targeted with loitering munitions as well.

Countries are donating their equipment as they need to upgrade their current inventory.

Russia could not take Kyiv the first time but second time it may try with a mind set of complete destruction. People cannot be complacent in regards to this war.

The Challenger is not a more advanced than an M1 Abrams. It is more advanced than the Leopard.
1
What are you talking about?
1
It is not easy for German culture to make that change.
1
Once US pressure comes to bear that viewpoint will change. All the European neighbors as will be putting on pressure. I suspect Germany is playing this game.

Numbers have a force and property of their own. While Ukraine is a large country and would be difficult to occupy that does not mean 1.5 million Russians cannot destroy the place completely.
1
@DoNotFitInACivic 1.5 million troops storming Ukraine would be chaos and we have no idea what that looks like.
1
You would be surprised if the right opportunities were to arise who would join up for military service.
1
There was nothing stopping Germany from having a defensive force and investing in NATO.
1
That is not really news and is just the trend of China.
1
What can they do about it?
1
That is only the start.
1
Germany will fail as a economic culture but that does not mean they cannot arm the life out of the European zone in the next several years.
1
If Germany industry was motivated it could easily fill out its military requirements.
1
@abrahamlevi3556 What if the whole of Germany industry was to chip in and help produce various classes of vehicles.
1
The key is not about Germany giving up their own tanks. The key is that other countries who have their tanks in storage can give them to the Ukrainian military.
1
@crescent4996 Poland needs to be spending 20% of its gdp at a minimum as it knows that if Ukraine falls it is next.
1
Please do tell us Mr Oddvard Myrnes how europe can prevent Russia from invading Europe?
1
It is about showing strength and not looking weak.
1
That is their challenge but when they do that they become American.
