In the modern era trump would be the best and Obama the worse when it comes to policy. When it comes to decency Obama is probably considered one of the best and Trump the worse. Trump could have been a good president if he did not play his political character so harshly and Obama could have been a good president if he engaged more with administrative policy. But then again what would we expect from a reality TV star and an academic senator.

Trump did some good administrative work and some good policy work but his divisive character that he was playing really damaged his ability to function as president at the executive level. Even some of his own appointments worked against him.

@metablue4454 The CIA as a whole is an intelligence organisation that does research and presents it to the presidency. I think people think of the CIA as in the movie version of the agent in the field or those analysts scheming in politics. 99% of the CIA is nothing more than a bureaucracy of intelligence and report writing. You will find that the politics of Washington is doing most of the scheming not the CIA. I am not saying there are not officers in the CIA, FBI or military that are not using their position of division for political means.

They could have both represented the populist sides of their political divide and still got things done. Trump's political character created too many enemies to the point that he could get nothing done and people disliked him, Obama made a lot of promises and then never worked with democrats/republicans in congress to get things done. Trump got stuff through congress with the democrats on various issues but his political character was to abrasive and crazy.

People at some point have to get sick of all this aggressive media politics. I suspect that the younger generations coming through are not as into it.

If Trump had not of played his political character to be that harsh (he is not like that in real life) the media and public may not have disliked him as much. And if Obama had worked with his own party and the republicans a bit more he would have been more more liked.

Obama did not do well at managing the executive and neither did Trump but they performed like that for different reasons.

Such things are small and could easily be dealt with if they posed an issue.

@brianpeters9457 Jefferson gave protection to people in an era that was very difficult to do so. During the foundation of the US government and state there was several sides that were competing for power and some of them wanted to keep the slave trade. Jefferson did not want slavery to remain but he like Washington realized that they could not take it head on. They were still effectively at an uneasy juncture with the British. It took the US 70 years to fully address the issue of slavery. Some of them held slaves so as to protect them from the real slave traders at the time.
