Consumers are not demanding electric that is a myth. Wealthier market buyers are demanding electric vehicles but they are not buying the typical F150 or Malibu. The type of consumer that would buy an EV is somebody that has excess income that they can use to make them self feel good and to virtue signal their goodness.

Hydrogen may work for Japan that is producing the hydrogen through electricity that is generated through nuclear. The important word here is may work.

Tesla being a success does not mean that all cars can be electric in 10 years time. There simply is not enough copper on earth to have every car as electric and to have renewable. For electric cars to be a reality it will need better battery energy storage and charging, development of a new alloy to replace copper and then a national scale build out of charging power points and so on. That is not a 10 year development.

If you are talking about trains then the fantasy of a coast to coast high speed network that can some how magically service every state is nothing more than pure nonsense. There maybe a case within in a state of between city areas for high speed train but the reality of that is not that convincing. california needs to spend in excess of 100 billion to build such a system but in reality that would probably double when the project actually gets started. And exactly what would be the purpose of that?

The whole plastic and rubber thing has been way over played. The leftwing media is only talking about it because of the large volumes of it that end in the ocean but with a little bit of research they could easily figure out which countries are dumping into the oceans on an industrial scale.

EV have a nice smooth drive and have a unique power feeling especially when you accelerate but they are a luxury product and not a general market product.

I am an EV fan but they simply are not going to take over the market place anytime soon. Governments, politicians and the media are being unrealistic about them.

The commies that want to ban cars will come after bikes next. And if they get their way completely they will ban walking as well. The Green Movement is really just a watermelon in that it is green on the outside but very red in the middle.

Hybrid is a bit of a myth as well. It is not better for the environment than ICE. Some people like the way hybrid and all electric drive but that is a style and personal usage. Tesla can be a massive market success and may even help to push electric cars along but that does not mean such concepts can be decreed from the top down by policy.

That is just politics and media and in a few short years their attention could be on something else such as the famines that are around the corner and their occasion with global warming may just get forgotten. Remember when the ozone was about to fall and everybody was going to be completely sunburned, remember acid rain or the destruction of mining on the environment. Those were all crazes of the left that are not long gone.

@teddybearroosevelt1847 You actually think the average democrat voter cares about any of that. The just voted in an old president to replace an old president. One was offensive and appears not to be with it. Most people do not care about this when buying their products.

@ralphemerson497 Australia has everything it needs to build its own industries with. Australia also has a growing population and a new consumer market that will be arriving in the late 2020s.

EV is the future but it cannot be willed into place by politics. It has to develop through the market place. Rightnow Tesla cars are a luxury similar to BMW, Mercedes or Land Rover. They are simply not suitable for the whole market place. None of that does not mean a company like Tesla cannot succeed in our current market place.
