Comments by "retnavybrat" (@retnavybrat) on "*SPOILERS* Peter Capaldi is introduced to the world as the next Doctor! - Doctor Who - BBC One" video.
I hold the same view as the Brigadier: "Splendid chaps, *all* of them."

~ Hipnarla ~ The writer of the very first Doctor Who story in 1963 passed away in 1977.

Salty Boosack That would be cool, but if they start filming the new Doctor's first series before the regeneration episode is aired, the cat'll be out of the bag. There will be at least one person watching the filming who won't be able to resist posting something to social media.

It hasn't even been a year since this one was revealed and I doubt the BBC is going to want to shell out the money for a new one just because a new Doctor is taking the helm.

I don't get too bent out of shape over it because context is the key. If I'm talking with fellow Whovians and mention "the Doctor", everyone knows who (no pun intended **LOL**) I'm talking about. If I mention to a friend who isn't as familiar with the program that a new Doctor has been chosen, he/she would think that I switched real life medical providers. To those people, I would say a new Doctor Who has been chosen.

Oh, you better believe he was one (at least to me **LOL**). As I pointed out on another forum, the Fifth Doctor was the only one I had less than pure thoughts about until the Tenth Doctor came along. Ironic, isn't it, that the two Doctors I found the sexiest are now related? : )

No, not really. I would guess that the production team wanted to start fresh, so to speak, and present the Doctor as an established character, not one trying to cope with a regeneration. And considering that they wanted to attract viewers who probably hadn't seen much, if any of the old series, a regeneration scene from the beginning may have been confusing.

I hope not.

Even if the announcement was nothing but a tweeted press release, the actor / actress would've been named well before the Christmas special. I think this is the first time there's been this much hype over who the next Doctor was going to be. I think part of it had to do with this coinciding with the 50th anniversary.

Good point.

Actually, he did get a couple of brief mentions in "Children of Earth". (1) Jack tells Ianto at one point that if he understood correctly what the Doctor told him about his immortality, there's no way to reverse it. (2) Gwen mentions the Doctor in a video she's recording. She wonders why the Doctor wasn't there to help and concludes that he must be ignoring them because he's ashamed at the inhumanity that humanity was currently showing.

Sorry, wasn't specific enough -- referring to the TARDIS console.

Jacqueline Hill, Peter Purves, Jean Marsh, Nicholas Courtney, Ian Marter, Colin Baker, Freema Agyeman, Karen Gillan, and now Peter Capaldi are just the names I can spout off the top of my head of actors on Doctor Who who have played two (or more, in Jean Marsh's case) different characters.

From what I've read, the closest to "hysteria" it got during the classic series days was when Tom Baker was leaving. He had the role for seven years so there was great interest in who would replace him, but obviously not to the extent of having a worldwide live telecast to announce his replacement. Tom added fuel to the fire when he announced that he was wishing his successor, "whoever he or she was, the best of luck." It was the first time the possibility of a female Doctor was brought up.

I don't think they're going to bother. There aren't any characters around to say, "Hey, Doctor, you look like some dude from Pompeii." Now if the Doctor runs into Jack, that might be another matter since he'll also look like Frobisher from "Children of Earth".
1
What about The Stolen Earth / Journey's End two parter? Torchwood was part of that. On the sidelines, I'll admit, but it still played a role.
1
They may not, not unless Captain Jack is brought in for a story. And even at that, it could be suggested that it's been so long for Jack since "Children of Earth" that he may not even remember what Frobisher looked like.

Or maybe a combination of the two, otherwise the Master would've been able to regenerate before "The Deadly Assassin" and "The Keeper of Traken" instead of appearing like he was a hundreth degree burn victim.

Same actress, but she played a character that Martha later said was her cousin.

The second Doctor in "Journey's End" was a Human-Time Lord Metacrisis (otherwise known as a clone of the Doctor with Human DNA thrown in the mix). He was a separate being, not a result of a regeneration.
