Comment on old thread, I know, but I wanted to chime in on the bipod issue. We were issued a few of the "clothespin" bipod per squad when I was a US Army infantryman. They invariably got left behind, so they didn't get lost... because they never got used in the field.
The problems were two-fold. First, as you point out, the POI shift was significant enough to matter. Secondly, a bipod that isn't already mounted on the rifle (yet tucked out of the way when not in use) simply isn't going to get employed - soldiers are not going to pull it out of a pouch and snap it on in the middle of a firefight.
So, a lightweight bipod (even if you sacrifice durability or flexibility and adjustment), that folds and stays out of the way (without taking up valuable real estate on the forearm, especially in these days with a bunch of stuff like lights and lasers), and yet is easily deployed one handed, is an option.
However, you really need to still be able to shoot the rifle using the forearm with the bipod deployed if you have to get up and "gun & run" without time to stop and stow the bipod.
