  1. There were a lot of problems related to secession, beyond slave's rights. Independent states are vulnerable to attack by other countries, for one thing. Offering rights up North doesn't help the slaves in the South. A few were able to escape but it was very difficult.

  7. Majority of the population are opposed to secession. Seems "the governed" have spoken. However, fact is if red states seceded it would threaten the safety of northern states because of the vulnerability southern states would be placing themselves in. So the North would have to protect the South militarily from attack by other countries, without tax revenue from the South. Not to mention the strong possibility of ind. states attacking each other. More complicated than you're willing to admit.
