  1. My guess is that you're ignoring the year. This is long before optics, red dots and lasers became a norm for infantry. They weren't using it as an optic, but rather looking for an equivalent of modern red dot. And as norwegians, you would know more about quirks of fighting in your country due to features of landscape, climate and urban spread, things that I as an outsider can't really take into account. But I suspect that someone was expecting firefights at slightly longer ranges then what was considered a norm in Germany, USA or USSR.

  2. I don't get the idea of using 1,5-2,5 scope for it. Wouldn't 3-3,5 be better base for marksmen/scouts? Snipers(even squad support ones which be roughly translated into designated marksment, but not really the same) are looking at anything below 5-6 magnification with disgust anyway.
