Hi Shaun, I really enjoyed listening to your view and opinions. Thanks for pointing out the strengths and weaknesses of China. There's no question that China will be facing turbulent times economically for the next few years (China is not the only country doing so). What do you think of the hundreds of thousands of Hong Kong people leaving the city after the National Security laws? Largest drop of population since World War 2. I live in Toronto, and many HongKongers are settling in here.

China has done an absolutely awful job running Hong Kong. The inequality is shameful.

@f.s.monster3765 The inequality has been MUCH WORSE since the British days. China has 26 years to fix this problem. They got absolutely nowhere. I lived in Hong Kong.

@afryanmahendra2055 Beijing's definition of two systems is very different from the liberal definition of two systems. In Beijing's mind, freedoms was given by the authorities, not by the court systems and definitely not by the constitution (The Basic law). I don't blame the CPC for mishandling. They have no concept and definitely no experience on implementing freedoms and democracy.

Shaun is right. The CPC's unwillingness to listen to criticism is a serious hindrance to its development.

@afryanmahendra2055 If China is so good, why did 99percent of Taiwanese people rejected communist rules. If communism is so attractive, why did Hong Kong people left for western countries in record numbers following the national security laws? The significance of 1C2S is WAY MORE THAN HONG KONG. Taiwanese people have seen how China is indirectly governing Hong Kong, and have drawn up that the CPC cannot be trusted. My friend, do you want peaceful reunification or military conflict on the Taiwan Strait?

Chinese tourists are not going to Hong Kong, which is part of China anyway. Do you know why?
4
@xinyucao1247 What you think about Beijing's handling of the Hong Kong extradition law of 2019, as well as the COVID lockdown in Shanghai in 2022? There were widespread criticism on both, and much are constructive and much are justified. Of course, every country in the world will make mistakes, China including. But did the CPC listen to the critics? No.

@stunningandbrave2520 Hi there, it is nice to hear from you. Yes, I live in Toronto (for the last 30+ years) but I have been to Orlando many times. I agree with you, the short daylight in Toronto during the winter can be uncomfortable. Where are you from?
3
@yunko9369 Great Britain didn't give Hong Kong democracy because China forbade Britain to do so. China threatened to invade Hong Kong if Britain dared to do it. Do you approve of China's actions?
3
@afryanmahendra2055 What the KMT did to Taiwan was in the history book. Unlike Tiananmen it cannot be erased. Agree?
3
@tigermacan3474 China threatened to invade Hong Kong if Great Britain introduced democracy. The threat was real, and the documents have been declassified. Are you a warmonger?

@watchshowman9664 When the USD pegging was introduced in 1983, it was a savior. Times have changed.

Really enjoy listening to Shaun's insights and opinions. However, I disagree with him regarding Trump versus Biden. Biden has already demonstrated that he is willing to coexist and co-compete with China. Trump always wanted to put China down. We can not go back to the "China flu" days. What does everyone think??

It doesn't make sense only 2 flights per day from US. Is the Chinese government behind it?

@CyrusJanssen Agreed Cyrus. Great guest.

@r.gronkowski856 You made an excellent point 👍 Glad that Carrie Lam wasn't reelected. She brought disaster to the city.

@stom8360 There's no perfect country, and China is no exception. The problem is that the Chinese Communist Party refuses to accept criticism. The recent "dictator" comment by Biden is a great example. There are many dictators in the world today (including many US allies), but only China can't stand the criticism.
1
That's why Taiwanese people reject communist rules.
1
@yunko9369 If the Freedom Convoy exists in China, those people will be arrested IMMEDIATELY without mercy. Is this what you want the government to do?
1
@watchshowman9664 The problem is, everything in Hong Kong are security issues. Holocaust was Nazi Germany's "security issues " as well. Do you agree?
1
@user-qv5hy4wf4m China doesn't intervene on Hong Kong? Give me a break, everyone in Hong Kong knows about China's involvement. The National security laws were part of it (it never passed the Hong Kong legislation. It was imposed directly from Beijing). China doesn't even hide their involvement.
1
@weizhang2834 that's the point
