  1. Don't forget that Russia also has Crimea - means he controls 80% of Ukraine undersea resources. In addition if they eventually control Odessa and the ports in the East they basically control all imports and exports to and from Ukraine - in other words the Ukrainian economy. They don't need Kiev to do that.
