Euronews just reports what Russian, NATO and Ukrainian officials say. NATO hasn't done anything but monitor the situation and calling it as they see it. Russia, on the other hand, has annexed territories, lied over their military involvement. I have nothing against Russians, but Putin is a dangerous man. I realized this when I learned about the 1999 apartment bombings, and the subsequent second chechyan war, (and the mockery he made of Russian democracy) so I'm personally happy that at the very least people are waking up now.

Антон Городецкий No, blowing up Russian apartment buildings in the middle of the night was bad. Russian officials blamed it on Chechyens, but when they thought they had finally caught the perpetrators, they turned out to be FSB agents. Pretty scary stuff. As for making a mockery of democracy, I mean ofcourse that act of being president for two terms, then becoming prime minister for one term, then becoming president again. I think that was dangerous precedent for Russian democracy (who only had a drunken fool as president before that) I'm not sure Russia will ever become a normal country now.

Антон Городецкий Yes, they were caught after a manhunt. I don't know the exact details, but from what I remember it was a collaboration of residents in the area, police and even a local department of the FSB. Only when they finally caught them, it turned out they were FSB agents. The minister who was responsible for the FSB then made an announcement however, that it was all an exercise (of which they hadn't bothered to inform any other departments or local authorities). The bomb material was then claimed to be just sugar, but was never seen again. There were no more bombing attacks however after this, and they never caught the Chechyan terrorists who were supposedly behind it. I'm sure if you do a search on youtube for "19999 apartment bombings" you can find a documentary on it

Антон Городецкий Are you saying that it's okay for the Russian secret service to have blown up buildings, killing Russian citizens, because the FBI has done something similar? I've never understood that line of reasoning, are you saying that America is your moral compass? (similar to Putin saying that invading Crimea was "okay because of Kosovo") Anyway, in the end of the day, in both cases, the water has been so muddied, that it's hard to say for certain what happened. In my view, the situation was suspect, and all the subsequent actions from Putin haven't inspired much confidence in his innocence.

***** How much were the Russian soldiers payed that raped and pillaged Chechnya? Regardless what you think your angle is, this thread was about Ukraine and Russia and why Western people view Russia and her actions the way they do. It wasn't about the USA, I'm sure you can find hundreds of discussions on the grievances people have against America. (try the RT channel if you have trouble finding any)
