Maybe nuclear energy should be considered again. It doesn't require much land area. It doesn't disturb birds. It doesn't emit CO2. It doesn't require the reroute of water flows. True, meltdowns are scary, but those are rare and are an engineering problem, for which technical solutions could be found.

@mamamalamut9478 A nuclear meltdown is a local disaster, though. In the 80s and 90s countries moved away to coal because of Chernobyl, but coal causes the Earth's temperature to rise, which is a global problem. It just seems silly to trade what is a small chance of a local problem for a certain global problem.

@enhur9636 Also a local problem. Just store it in some underground area.

@jeanaiplu3840 There are plenty of sparsely populated areas on the planet. Also, that the availability of water would be some sort of limiting factor I think is far-fetched.

@jeanaiplu3840 I was talking about nuclear waste storage.

@jeanaiplu3840 Nuclear energy doesn't require much more water than most other forms of energy generation. Reactors are a closed system, though they do use up fresh water, but nothing like some other forms of human activities.

@jeanaiplu3840 I don't think many accidents during transportation have happened, and certainty not since recent decades. I doubt anyone has ever even died as a result, unlike for example with wind turbines, that cause 5-10 fatal accidents per year, just in the UK alone.
