I doubt very much that Rubin is saying that experts, on any given topic, are useless. Experts disagree with one another, all the time. We have to take that into consideration. A classical liberal would know that and be willing to assess ALL the information and not just designate one person or group as the arbiter of all knowledge on their field of expertise. That would insinuate that dissenting voices will always be wrong and should be suppressed. It would be a better strategy to go with a plan, on the advice of those at the top of the field, with the understanding that they could be wrong and that we have to adapt as circumstances unravel. That's at the core of thought for a classical liberal. Continuous reassessment and adaptation of ideas and plans. Rigidity doesn't take into account new and unforeseen developments or that events evolve. It's no accident that it was the classical liberal that accepted the new idea of evolution. They fought against the expertise of the church as dogma. Rubin is now questioning the expertise of our experts as dogma. He's advocating a willingness to allow his perceptions of life and events to evolve. That's classical liberalism. I could be wrong but that's how I see it....and I'll continue to see it that way unless you can present a logical argument that shows I could be mistaken.
