@Aanthanur The media claimed it. Andrew Cuomo, the governor of New York claimed it as did Mayor DeBlasio. They were worrying about a lack of a tax base because all those with money were moving to their second homes in the Hamptons, Cape Cod, Florida and Upper New York state. First the lockdowns prompted and exodus and then the riots, the defunding of the police and the resulting increased crime has prompted even more to leave. Couple that with increasing taxes and New York is in big trouble, worried about a tax shortfall and wanting the Federal Government to bail them out. The media has been praising Cuomo's job until just recently. They were even talking about him becoming the US Attorney General if the Democrats won the 2020 elections. Now, he's going to hell in a hand basket because of how badly he's been running the state.

@Aanthanur I'm not American but the US was a land of opportunity in back in the fifties through to the eighties. People worked hard and life was pretty good for all. Now, no one works and sacrifice is a dirty word. "Pull yourself up by your bootstraps" is laughed at. Maybe to say that the US was the greatest sounds a little over the top but it was a hell of a lot better for the average person, back then, than it is right now. That's the point. What was once a good place to live is now being rapidly destroyed. I've seen the inner cities, of the US, back in the seventies. It wasn't the best but it was a hell of lot better than it is right now. In fact, it's not even close.

@Aanthanur You haven't been to the US and seen the state of the inner cities, then. I live in Canada and I've been to the US numerous times. I've seen it deteriorate over the years. There are still the nice areas, where the high income types live but it's getting worse in almost every big city. I wouldn't live in any of them right now and people are leaving cities like New York, Los Angeles, Portland and San Francisco in droves. 20 years ago people were going there in droves. Portland and San Francisco were beautiful cities. Now they're dumps where homeless druggies live in tent cities, in garbage and graffiti everywhere, injecting drugs in broad daylight and even pooping on the sidewalks. It's disgusting.
