  2. There's an old Soviet joke built on Baden-Baden, probably due to the way it sounds in Russian -- exotic, somewhat pretentious and reminiscent of Imperial Russia.

  3. I think you're unfair to your native language. Although my approach is far from scientific, try comparing product instructions written in different languages. I'm pretty sure you'll find that of all european languages Italian will come a close second in terms of length of text/characters after the English version. Shorter than French, much shorter than German or Scandinavian or Slavic languages.
