@paulwooton4390 A couple of points there that need to be addressed. What limited benefits? While acknowledging the dispatchability issue, per $/MWh wind turbines are on average half the cost to produce electricity than nuclear. I cite the latest LAZARDS LCOE study 2023 as evidence. These LCOE studies include in the formula the costs of manufacturing, maintenance and disposal. These are also unsubsidised calculations, although if you read the report it does also provide tax and fuel costings as well. They have been proven to work in producing electricity in numerous experiments and in real functioning windfarms. Not a single point you raised was factually correct. Where did you get your information from?

The acoustic sources being used in these surveys are either completely out of the hearing range of baleen whales or only capable of slightly disturbing their behavior, an expert told us. Regulations also require operators to make sure there are no whales nearby when conducting a survey. “There’s basically zero chance that those surveys have caused any mortality,” Douglas Nowacek, the chair of marine conservation technology at Duke University.

@paulwooton4390 Yes I understand the dispatch ability problems with wind and solar, as I mentioned this deficiency in my previous reply. There are LCOS studies however that do account for storage and i would argue that capital cost which are included in LCOE incorporates land usage. There are other solutions available to maintain reliability for instance creating excess capacity. Studies show that off shore wind could easily provide all of Australia’s energy needs and then some. Yes the wind doesn’t always blow or the sun shine, but they do somewhere and energy can be transmitted. I have no problem with the reliability or safety of nuclear power, but it will not be cheap. It needs to be heavily regulated and that makes it’s very expensive. In the US nuclear power is heavily subsidised by state and federal governments to enable it to compete against wind power.

@bundariau874 You are just factually wrong. The latest versions of wind turbines last 25 to 30 years. You are just cherry picking data, and clearly you haven't read anything. There is no point in directing you to any book.

There aren’t actually any wind farms near where 80% of the whales have beached. As well the under water surveys use very high frequency sound, whales can’t hear it. Their hearing is at low frequency.

Fact check: A US Marine Commission study determined 40% of these deaths are directly attributable to ship/boat strikes. This whole story is a beat up BS lie by the RWNJs opposed to renewable energy sources.
