Could you be specific. What are we not equipped with now that we were in the past?

@Nathan-ry3yu So let's just accurately reflect the true size of the RAAF in the 80s/90s. The FA/18 fleet was never larger than 75 including all variants. The F-111 fleet was 28 only. There are still 24 FA18 F Super Hornets in service. The F35s will number 72. So it is just factually incorrect to state the RAAF is half the size it was in the 80/90s. In the 80/90s the RAAF didn't have KC-30A, E-7A, or C-17s. These command/control/ surveillance aircraft added with the air refuelling capability we now have give our airforce a significant boosted lethality the RAAF never had in the 80s or 90s.

@Nathan-ry3yu So the next little bit of info you didn't include with the Perry class FFG was that to upgrade them in the 90s the fleet was reduced to 4 from 6. The 3 DDGs that replaced 4 FFG are a significantly more capable platform.

@Nathan-ry3yu And finally the M1A1 tanks that replaced the Leopard AS1 were significantly better armoured, had a much bigger gun, and significantly better optics. The ASLAV has been replaced by Boxer and the army is getting a battalions worth of IFVs, something the army has never had. The M113AS4 is still a capable APC. Also the Army is being equipped with SP artillery and HIMARs. In the last few years all its logistics vehicles have been replaced. Individual LCE is now significantly better than it was in the 80s. The Army today is better equipped and trained than at any time in the 80s or 90s.
