Rental assistance is available to all Australians. Medicare and free medical and to a lesser extent dental are available to all Australians in public hospitals. Social welfare assistance schemes are available to all Australians. Many disadvantaged Australians use charity services for handouts. What is your point?

And voice is exactly that, it is not the government offering help at all. It is the indigenous population saying we will help ourselves. Did you even read the Uluṟu statement from the Heart, as you clearly have no understanding of it.

@serverlan763 Yes you are correct. In Australia you have no right to needlessly kill someone. It's called murder, go figure.
2
@cavscout7113 And yes I totally agree with you Australia most definitely needs a bill of rights. I keep certain weapons handy in my home and wouldn’t think twice to use them to defend my wife or family from harm.
2
Yes, immediately Australia initiated a whites only policy supported by the constitution that specifically mentioned indigenous people and made them non citizens with no voting rights. It doesn’t actually get much more racist than that.

@blusymmonds630 Who mentioned race? I talked about an indigenous population who were illegally denied their land rights in an inherently racist constitution that mentioned aborigines and specifically made them non citizens with no voting rights that created our Federation. An advisory body to parliament, constitutional recognition, and a Makkaratta truth commission are in no way racist. Merely squaring the books.

@sadwingsraging3044 It will cost significantly less and potentially save billions of dollars.

@andythompson2009 It’s a stupid nonsensical figure as it takes into account all federal monies spent on Defence, Education, and health and welfare which for education, health and welfare are considerably more expensive in rural and remote locations. The $30 billion number has been completely debunked and is just parroted by people after a Liberal politician used it in an interview some years ago. The figure is also almost 10 years old as it relates to a study done in 2014. In actual fact the real number that is direct funding to indigenous programs is approximately $6 billion. The Australian government currently spends approximately $25000 per Australian and an extra $7000 approximately per indigenous person.

Under English common law you already have that right. In Australia because of the way our constitution was formed this right came across into Australian law at federation. Didn’t you study Australian history at school.
1
@cavscout7113 Yes I acknowledged Australia doesn't have a Bill of rights, however this is not necessary for natural justice. There are state and federal laws, quite specific to self defence, none I read mentioned fists. They do however in a general sense talk about conduct that only is necessary. While not specifically mentioning a weapon if that is what is deemed necessary then it is legal. It all depends on the individual circumstances, as it should. On a side note when did Assault troopers become cav scouts?
1
@cavscout7113 It’s just when I was in the cavalry the section of soldiers allocated to recce troop were called assault troopers. It was in everyones opinion a poor description because the only ever did reconnaissance work. We just called them veggies. At some stage in the late 90s or early 2000s as I remember they were redesignated Cav Scouts and as you are Cav Scout71 I thought you might have been one.
1
@cavscout7113 No disrespect taken. I spent my entire lifetime defending Australia. I have no issue vaporising terrorists with a 500 pound bomb.

@bubu345 vacuous gibberish.

@blusymmonds630 Once again who mentioned race. We are just talking about the original inhabitants of the land. Race has nothing to do with it. A Makkaratta truth commission is not a body that requires voting, it is a peace making process where past wrongs are acknowledged. There is no division. This has just become a right wing talking point to bring out. It has no basis in fact.

@MrDogsledder Racism already is imbedded in our constitution. A voice removes it.
1
@blusymmonds630 Yes it was as this is how it described the original aboriginal inhabitants of Australia and then denied them a voice in the constitution. I didn’t mention race the founders of the constitution did. Acknowledging deep seated racism in our constitution is not acknowledging the legitimacy of racism. There is only one species of humans. Skin colour and physical body features of humans to divide us into race is a social construct designed specifically to dehumanise those people considered not human. Slave owners used this type of language.

@blusymmonds630 While acknowledging your argument which I don't necessarily disagree with entirely a voice to parliament is not a privilege it is merely restoring parity.
