That’s right the beauty of an open cut coal mine is awe inspiring, and don’t forget the sweet smell of burning coal and the beautiful wisps of coal smoke as it is burnt, ahh it brings images of heaven to my soul.

@southern-samurai Yes you are correct. I know this because of all the investors in Australia rushing to open coal powered electricity plants. You can barely get an investor to spend money on solar or wind. You are absolutely right. It’s just when you look at the data of uptake on renewables compared to fossil fuels and nuclear we are completely wrong. Go figure?

@turnerfamilyinozi So currently the only approved fossil fuel plant to generate electricity in Australia is the Reeves Plain gas plant. There is a proposed gas plant at the old Quarantine power station in SA. There are currently over a dozen proposed renewable plants under consideration. Currently there are over 60 renewable energy plants under construction. In 2022 19 renewable projects were commissioned bringing on 1908.2 MW of electricity. How much coal fired power was commissioned in 2022.

@johnwoodrow8769 So I did a bit of data gathering and just using the US as an example 8.4 million acres has been disturbed due to coal mining. This is a US Army engineers estimate. Currently on average it takes 314.acres per million tons of coal produced. Using data gleaned from the Global Energy monitor solar requires 16.4% less land and wind 96.3% less land than coal to produce a given amount of electricity over a 60 year period. Your claim is factually and demonstrably wrong.
