There are simply other cheaper and vastly more simple options. It’s not science it’s economics.

@polarbear7255 In the case of Australia it does. Every independent study shows nuclear power is significantly more expensive than renewables. Nobody is arguing the science you dimwit, nuclear energy works, but it is ridiculously expensive.

@mikeoz9389 Perhaps that what you should be doing then instead of raising inane points about electricity generation. Every LCOE study has renewable energy significantly cheaper than nuclear, so much so that excess capacity which you need anyway is still shitloads cheaper than nuclear. Nuclear doesn't even provide the guaranteed dispatchability that its proponents espouse.

@stephenbrickwood1602 So you are saying that the current infrastructure never needs replacing or maintenance. I didn't realise that the poles and wires we built to deliver fossil fuel generated electricity didn't cost a cent once they were constructed and lasted forever. You have sold me, I've changed my mind.

@stephenbrickwood1602 What nuclear power plants? There are no l mean zero, zilch, none nuclear power plants planned or being considered for the Australian grid. I haven’t got a clue where you got your data from (your upper colon) my data which completely contradicts your data comes from the CSIRO Gencost report 23-24 which even with the added cost of new infrastructure has renewable energy significantly cheaper than nuclear.
