  4. @Ellio88 I have no issue with censorship. It happens every day right throughout our society. Rinehart attempting to remove an artwork from the NGA is not censorship it was stupidity. What was even more stupid were the actions of Queensland swimming and the athletes concerned. Absolute mindless dimwits none of whom had actually seen the work. It beggars belief. Not Rinehart, Queensland swimming or the athletes have shown the slightest bit of moral integrity.

However your opinion is worthless as without the correct skills your subjective judgement is factually wrong. Namatjira has won numerous awards for his art, so not just one authority but many authorities. With this particular painting he captured the essence of the person perfectly, that's why she dislikes it. It is an uncomfortable painting no question. Snowflakes deal with it.

Namatjira work sells for thousands of dollars. The British museum purchased a portrait he did of Capt Cook. His work is displayed in art galleries around the world. I'm personally not that big a fan however yours and my opinion are wrong.

  34. @sidecarmisanthrope5927  Great art, promotes discussion, thought, and activates the senses. I personally am not that bigger a fan of Namatjira style but certainly appreciate its value. In this particular case, the work certainly invokes a feeling and I suspect that feeling is exactly what the artist wished. In which case you may not like the painting but it certainly achieved its objective. Yes art can just be entertaining, but it can be more than that. It can stimulate and provoke, and make a society look inside itself. Namajtjira is far too a modest man to claim all these things. In his words he just paints what he sees.
