That’s not corruption. It most certainly is virtually criminal behaviour by the carer, but it’s not corruption.

My son works in the industry and has never witnessed any corruption. He only tells stories of dedicated workers and professional services.

If a disabled person on a NDIS package can afford to pay the travel and accommodation costs for themselves and a carer then the NDIS will pay the carers wages and they would if the carer was caring for the person not on holidays. NDIS packages do not and will not pay for holiday travel and accommodation. It is illegal and fraud. If you actually have evidence of this then it is your duty to report it to the authorities, not spread misinformation on YouTube.

@ZELJKO472 you would need to provide evidence for your claim to be taken seriously. The NDIS most definitely does not pay a single cent to any participant to go on a holiday. It will cover the cost and wages of a carer for a participant while on a holiday. The participant will have to cover the carers accommodation, food, and travel costs.

@matteoperche7262 Agreed. My daughter has an intellectual disability complicated with epilepsy since birth. She managed to work in supported business units for 13 years but it eventually got to much for her. She receives a NDIS package that suits her needs perfectly. So I'm all over the NDIS and disability support pension and won't let anybody get away with spruiking BS. I hope I didn't offend you. MS is terrible and if you don't get what is reasonable and necessary there is an appeals system and support services that will assist you.

As the parent of a intellectually disabled daughter the NDIS works perfectly and provides for all her needs.

@chrisg8321 They didn’t cope. Disabled children were often left and given to the state to become guardian. Before the NDIS disabled care was in many cases sub standard or worse. Care was fractured, not coordinated and severely under funded. The NDIS is not perfect and needs improvement which the current government is doing. The NDIS is significantly better than previous state based systems which provided no flexibility at all.

@chrisg8321 So you have no evidence whatsoever. A NDIS client being assaulted in a motel room is not evidence the NDIS payed for the accommodation. The client may have payed for it with thier own money. A charity or a friend may have payed for it. Once again the NDIS does not pay for holiday accommodation. It is a crime to falsely claim costs to your NDIS package. If you have evidence of an individual defrauding the NDIS you are morally bound to report it to the police. Unsubstantiated accusations are worthless and are a display of shallow character.

@chrisg8321 Yes you are correct my daughter has used her NDIS package to purchase some specialised furniture and protective headware. What it won't pay for is a holiday under any circumstances. My daughter used her own resources in she saved her money for 5 years to pay for herself and her carer all accommodation, meals, and travel costs for both of them. It was a short holiday with her friends that was less than a week. All the NDIS did was cover the carers wages which it would have done at home or on a holiday. It cost the taxpayer nothing. You are believing Skynews misinformation.

Factually incorrect. The NDIS does not pay for food or meals. It will pay for a career to cook the meal. The NDIS will not pay for holiday accommodation. It will pay a career to care for a disabled person on holiday but again the disabled person will have to pay the accommodation cost of the carer. @chrisg8321 No. I asked some pointed questions, none of which were answered satisfactorily. Yes of course the story may be true, however there is little sense or logic in their claim. You just chimed in with a maybe this or a maybe that and yes maybe anything is possible. As I pointed out there are numerous avenues she could have undertaken and yet not one was explored and yet you are willing to believe all the them are corrupt. Well in that case I have a bridge in Sydney to sell you.

@markcroydon3195 Look up 1p36 deletion syndrome. I know exactly what I'm talking about in detail. I have 44 years experience in disability care/parenting and the NDIS is not perfect but it was the best thing that has happened to support my daughter.

@rachael560 So the circumstances you describe would be the absolute rare exception and the parents would have to be registered providers on the NDIS. All other options would have to be exhausted. I suggest you make an anonymous phone call to the NDIS fraud section and provide the exact details of the families who have personally observed abusing this system.

@rachael560 So as I said before the circumstances you describe awe the absolute rare exception when all other options have failed. In those circumstances they are not acting as parents but as carers and should be compensated fairly. Disabled children may very well require personal transport to school. My daughter despite numerous attempts was never able to be travel trained to use public transport. Both her parents worked so we payed taxi companies to transport her around. This was well before the NDIS, was it risky? for sure. Were we bad parents, maybe? The point is what you describe doesn’t seem bad to me.

@rachael560 There is carer payment and a carer allowance at least there was when my wife got it, but it was something like $90 a fortnight. The carer payment is equivalent to the disability pension, so the parent would not be able to work and is a full time carer. The Idea of the NDIS is to enable the flexibility for the system to provide individual solutions. Again if a parent/carer can’t work and is receiving a career payment then they should be entitled to extra payment s to cover the costs associated with caring for a disabled person. As you know autism is on a scale of severity mildly autistic people can function perfectly well in society, they may just appear a little quirky but severely autistic people can be non verbal and barely able to function. My daughter was long out of school before she received a NDIS package. We developed an intimate relationship with the taxi company and she had the same driver eventually she qualified for taxi vouchers and these covered half the cost. These were other factors as we lived in remote locations with limited resources, but I don’t want to get to hooked up into my personal circumstances. I have had 44 years experience with disability and the NDIS is the best thing ever. Is it perfect? No. It will always require close attention and improvements. I understand my experience is only anecdotal and as such is not evidence of anything, but I can honestly say because of my personal situation I have known hundreds of disabled people and their parents/carers over the years and universally the NDIS is superior to the ad hoc all over the place bits and piece state by state schemes that existed before.

@rachael560 This is very frustrating as I just replied in detail and for whatever reason it was deleted. While my daughter was at school we developed an intimate relationship with the taxi company and they had the same driver pretty much allocated to daughter and eventually she qualified for taxi vouchers which covered half the cost. Many years later when she received a NDIS package she lost the taxi vouchers and her Centrelink mobility allowance and she has a mobility payment as part of her NDIS package.

I might add we spent many long hours ourselves and with professional carers in an attempt to train my daughter so she use public transport. They all failed.

@chrisg8321 I just finished explaining taxi travel was never on the NDIS. Public transport wasn’t an option so she qualified for a state based scheme of taxi vouchers which were not free but reduced the cost by 50%. She eventually received a mobility allowance as part of her disability pension and both of these stopped when she received her NDIS package which has as part of it a mobility payment. Public transport is not always a viable option for disabled people for a variety of reasons. Yes my daughter has received through her NDIS package some specialist furniture and protective headware. On the holiday subject the NDIS does not pay for any holiday costs. It will not pay for accommodation, meals or travel costs. What it will pay for is the carers wages for care provided which they would pay for normally anyway. The NDIS also won’t pay for the carers accommodation, meals, and travel costs either. These costs must be born by the clients personal resources. In my daughters case she saved for over 5 years to enable her to pay for her carers travel, accommodation and meals for the 5 day holiday she had with a group of her friends. All the NDIS paid for was the carers wages which again I will point out would be paid anyway whether she is at home or on a holiday. Is it so bad that she had one holiday in ten years, and it cost the taxpayer nothing. You are believing Skynews misinformation.

The NDIS never payed for taxi travel as explained her state based taxi vouchers stopped immediately she received a NDIS package as did her centrelink mobility allowance. She never received free taxi rides it was 50% equal payment.

@rachael560 I’m sorry I am not able to understand your reply. What is your child’s centre? Why can’t you afford to take your kids to the Gold Coast? What do you mean by “not for SLRs”? What is not for community participation? NDIS funding is based on what the participant requires over a year. Monies not spent are can’t be rolled over as that is not how government funding works. My daughter doesn’t always spend here funding either, but it doesn’t decrease either. When her plan is reviewed then it is adjusted. Some times it is increased, sometimes as it did recently some funding is withdrawn. This is the normal process.

@markcroydon3195 Once again because I have a intellectually disabled child whose disability is complicated by epilepsy (look up 1p36 deletion syndrome) I have a rather extensive experience as a carer, parent, and administrator in the disabled field. Once again my experience has been that my daughter has received near on perfect support from the NDIS for her condition by professional staff. Her package is regularly reviewed and amended as required. With the correct evidence/documentation a reasonable request should be granted. Failing this there is an appeals process. The NDIS is not broken, it can certainly do with some minor repairs. The biggest fix would be the states taking back some ownership of disability as they just wiped their hands and walked away when the NDIS started.

@chrisg8321 The SA police and the NDIS Fraud section have arrested and charged several providers with fraud and Workcover have charged providers for not providing a safe work environment. So the system is working perfectly. A private company advertising it can provide a service to NDIS clients is not fraud or illegal. A NDIS client pays for their travel, accommodation, meals, and leisure on a holiday with their own money as well as the caregivers travel, accommodation, meals, etc. The NDIS only paye the caregivers wages which it would do if the client wasn’t on holiday. You honestly haven’t got a clue about the NDIS whatsoever.

@chrisg8321 Absolutely not. Any use of NDIS funds to pay for holiday accommodation is illegal. We fundamentally differ on how care for the disabled should be organised and funded, and that's fine, however you are factually wrong on how NDIS funding can be spent. It must be reasonable and necessary. NDIS clients can go on a holiday but all the NDIS will pay for is the client's carers wage, nothing else as it is illegal.
