In my 35 years I was never ridiculed. In fact on many occasions random members of the public approached me and thanked me for my service. I never once was ever abused or had anyone ever say anything negative.

@Fire.4Effect Interestingly women in the ADF have all the options available to men, from pilot to grunt.

They don’t currently but some have in the past. We should be flexible enough to at least consider it if circumstances warrant it.

As a fellow soldier until recently agreed with you, however if you believe the current commentary and war is imminent then conscription may not be a bad idea. You can change your training methods to accommodate conscripts and yes you get some dudes but you also get really clever people. It would certainly boost ADF numbers, but it wouldn’t be cheap, as you have to train and equip all the extra personnel.

@Fire.4Effect Totally agree with you. I wasn’t making a case they can only that they have the opportunity. The army knows now from its experience training women at Singleton on IET that their bodies just can’t handle the weight load. I speak generally of course as some woman can. Lots of blokes can’t handle the weight loads either. Just as I got out the Army it had just decided to modify the load bearing equipment for women to better suit their body shape. I don’t know if this has had any effect.
