This comment is laughable the 2nd amendment is just that an amendment it was not part of the original constitution and as such a constitutional amendment can remove it.

@bobbercam7127 What an absurd comment. In actual fact having used automatic weapons most of my life I fully appreciate a really well made military assault rifle, just not in the hands of an untrained numpty.

@bobbercam7127 And I am not suggesting people shouldn’t have reasonable access to reasonable weapons. No civvie needs access to military style weapons, nor should any criminal, mentally ill, or various other issues. Things are out of balance at the moment and I don’t believe some restrictions would even remotely effect your ability to go hunting with a really well made good quality bolt action hunting rifle. Which you should have every right to do. Even semi autos with reduced magazine capacity would be a start. These mass school killings have to stop and maybe some small sacrifices need to be made to MAGA.

@goosecouple It is irrelevant what it says. Read the 18th amendment, which was repealed via the 21st amendment. What don’t you get about the process to amend the constitution.

@PJRayment Yes I agree the prospect of the 2nd amendment being amended itself is unlikely, that was not my point only that it can be done, legally and peacefully. My question to Dog Zebra was obviously rhetorical and clearly meant to highlight that in fact amendments to the constitution can be amended, whether you agree with it is irrelevant. Read the 21st amendment. Your subjective opinion that alcohol is bad and guns are good is perfectly fine you are entitled to that opinion good on you for expressing it. The purpose of the 2nd amendment according to legal opinion (US District court judge St George Tucker 1803) was a check on Federal power. Your language of tyrannical government is deliberately highly emotive. The 2nd amendment could be amended to still reflect this intention and remove the right to bear arms and simply insert a legal and peaceful means. Finally yes the idea of an Armed insurrection is absurd as the government has tanks and missiles.

@wasidanatsali6374 If you had read the thread discussion and understood it, then you would have realised that wasn't what I was arguing, I was arguing it could be done not whether it should or whether it was possible, making your point completely superfluous.

@PJRayment WTF Phil, read the room. "Sure, now try to remove that right by force". You didn't seem to understand the US constitution can by amended and I was emphasising it can. If you are aware, all well and good. Yes alcohol is a tricky subject, it has been around throughout human history. fwe have been brewing for 10000 years according to the archaeological evidence, and probably a lot longer than that. I have a rich history of alcoholism running right through my family so no need to tell me about the damage it can cause, but as I see it, it is an individuals choice, and prohibition in the US was an abject failure, despite its good intentions. What you and I think is tyrannical just maybe not be what the majority think, just saying. Technically speaking the right to bear arms could well include military weapon systems and nuclear weapons.
