All the LCOE studies say otherwise. Ref: LAZARDs 15th edition LCOE analysis. Nuclear may be clean and safe but it most certainly isn’t cheap.

We subsidise fossil fuels to the tune of $10 billion a year of taxpayers money, why are we using coal and gas?

LCOE studies show this.

@creationdotcomfan Didn't say you shouldn't only that it is expensive.
1
@creationdotcomfan Nope LCOE calculations include construction and life of type running costs. Solar and wind work out much cheaper than nuclear.
1
@creationdotcomfan That is not the argument. What you just did was a strawman and makes your reply illogical.
1
@creationdotcomfan That's easy. LCOE = sum of costs over a lifetime over sum of electrical energy produced over lifetime. It: investment expenditure in the year Mt: operations and maintenance expenditure in the year Ft: fuel expenditure inthe year Et: electrical energy generated in a year r: discount rate n: expected lifetime of system or power station. This is all expressed as a mathematical formula. The latest LAZARDS 15th edition LCOE analysis shows this.

@creationdotcomfan A quick search of the internet will find the LAZARDS report. I make no argument about capacity. While the mantra "the sun doesn't always shine or the wind doesn't always blow" is a constant, there are clever and innovative ways to solve these issues.

@iceman9678 I mean virtually all the infrastructure built in NSW to allow coal producers to provide electricity into the market and export it overseas was paid for by taxpayers. Roads, rail lines, ports, coal loaders, research, and development of coal. It is also ongoing with federal tax subsidies to the tune of $8 billion a year.
1
@iceman9678 Coal is being shipped overseas because it is the primary means by which we make electricity. Green energy can be exported in undersea transmission lines and liquid hydrogen.
1
@iceman9678 Yes we can totally agree there.
1
So the approx $10 billion in Federal and state subsidies to the fossil fuel industries are the reason the market heads that way?

There are people who’s ear I wouldn’t piss in even if their brain was on fire. Does that clear things up?

@AximandTheCursed I appreciate you understood it’s intention. Thankyou.
