@oldnutta7611 I have just checked numerous data sources and nuclear energy accounts for approximately 10% of current electricity production. At its peak in the early 90s it was only 18%. Your figure of 33% is extraordinary high. What is the source of your data?

@oldnutta7611 Right, I thought you meant world wide electricity production.

@oldnutta7611 I would have thought you could have found a better example of nuclear powered electricity generation other than Finland, considering the diabolical construction delays and cost overruns of the last reactor to go online.

@oldnutta7611 Fair enough, no problems. I personally have no objections to the safety and dispatchability of nuclear energy. It is just that nowhere in the world at all is it cheap. You mentioned France, the EDF group which is virtually 100% government owned is in hoc to the tune of 65 billion Euros. In the US nuclear powered generation is state and federally subsidised so it can compete against gas and renewable. You are mistaken if you think nuclear power is ever going to be cheap.

@oldnutta7611 So the latest LAZARDs LCOE study has unsubsidised wind and solar on average a third to a quarter of the cost of nuclear. No private investor in their right mind would invest in a nuclear power plant. Governments will have to do it and taxpayers will pay through the nose. The independent data is clear.
