  1. The very fact it's performance was tailored for low/medium altitude flight proves this was not an anti-kamikaze hunter. The kamikaze came, primarily, at high altitudes and then did a death dive. In the Pacific one of the best interceptors for this threat was actually the Royal Navy's Seafire, with it's excelent rate of climb (much better than the Hellcat), derived from it's origins as an interceptor.
