It’s not really about making people feel shameful about being fat, it’s more of a rejection of the pervasive ideology today that people are “perfect the way they are” when really they are making excuses for sinful and unhealthy behavior. It’s like when we are told we shouldn’t “shame” promiscuous women because it’s “okay” for them to just be who they are. I don’t want to hurt the person who was lied to, but we have to wake people up to the fact that health and well-being matter and our desires are not usually good for us when we give into temptation. But conservatives are just people, so at the moment people are overreacting to being told we’re not allowed to notice when someone is not attractive or healthy
