HMS Hood replaces HMS Renown for the battle with Scharnhorst and Gneisenau, how would the engagement go?

In my room is a picture frame with a collection of Will's Cigarette cards showing the ship badges of fifty warships among them are Repulse, Revenge, Queen Elizabeth and Hood but one stands out Verdun, a quick check on the back of the card showed she was a British Destroyer (The Card says Torpedo Boat Destroyer) Why did the Royal Navy call a ship Verdun it seems a bit odd for a British ship to be named after a French battle in which Britain didn't have any involvement in and are their other ships named after events or people that the ship the nation belonged to had no involvement with such as the Americans having a ship called Waterloo and the Dutch having a ship called Hastings etc?

During the age of sail did anyone try and put some kind of rocket or Katyusha rocket battery like device onto a ships boat for landings, i'm thinking in place of the swivel guns like shown in the show Hornblower where the crew of the Hotspur use the swivel guns to blast French Troops on the beach to save Hornblower. And if they didn't would it have been theoretically possible?
