@sspbrazil Technical ability is not really a matter of opinion - and technically, Paul Simonen is not a "great bass player". An iconic bass player - absolutely - and if that's what you meant, I wholeheartedly agree with you. After all, rock n' roll has never had to defer to the latter. "as for a vocalist, his vocals work on that song, it is one of my favorite Clash songs, Dylan has never ahd a great singing voice nor did Strummer, but I still love em'. So do I, but that doesn't make them "great" singers either.

Unfortunately you haven't yet managed to explain quite why you regard Paul Simonen as a "great bass player" "You are welcome to your opinion, but you are just trolling me at this point." It isn't really an opinion I'm afraid - and I'm not "trolling you", simply disagreeing and generally attempting to establish why you believe that he is a "great bass player" when your criteria appears to be based on approbation from your drummer, playing with your heart, some reggae bass lines and "because he is". That'll be most professional bassists then. Few pulled off a look and stage presence like Paul - but having seen the Clash three times, his live sound seriously sucked. It wasn't much better in the studio until London's Calling. There were much better bassists from the genre both in terms of feel and technical ability.

If you elect to air an opinion on the comments section of You Tube, don't expect others to mitigate for your obvious sensitivity or respond with indignation if someone challenges your viewpoint. Whether or not anyone has succeeded in the music industry or has been a part of an influential band also has no bearing upon the questionable level of musicianship of someone who has. Are you suggesting that a graduate of a BMus jazz drumming course is not qualified to pass comment on Ringo Starr? Presumably no art critic ever had anything relevant to say about Tracey Emin? @sspbrazil I'm simply responding to your comments. If you choose to make a claim, don't object or get so unnecessarily worked up if someone challenges it - nothing wrong with that. And since you keep responding on this thread, then ergo, that is also your "life" in terms of time invested. Like you said. Who cares?

@sspbrazil Well you clearly were worked up...but as I said I have no desire to troll you whatsoever, I simply disagree with your contention which appears to have caused you a degree of disconcertion. Incidentally Scott, as a matter of interest, how old are you? Only you said "lol". Also you look quite young and yet you saw the Clash three times? Really? Where and when?

@sspbrazil That's fine, although you haven't managed to say why or support your claim and like I said, Paul's playing and level of proficiency is self evident and speaks for itself. Where are you going? Awkward question? I'm really interested in how someone your age saw the Clash? Did you actually mean that you've watched Rude Boy or Live at Shea Stadium three times?
