Of course more things happen in places where there are more people. The violent crime rate in Chicago is 943 per 100,000 residents. Lubbock, Texas : 1,008/100,000 Odessa, Texas : 1,038/100,000 Beaumont, Texas : 1,047/100,000 Houston, Texas : 1,072/100,000 St. Louis, Missouri : 1,927/100,000 Shall I continue? What's my point? Red states are more dangerous than blue ones.
