I am not pro-EU, to put it simply, I am against all institutions that are oppressive, and the Tory controlled UK government is far more oppressive than anything the EU has done .

How is having another referendum "anti-democratic"?
5
@MisterHampshire On this point you are factually wrong. There were 300 hours of parliamentary debate in 1972, whereas the 2015 Referendum Bill passed in its Second Reading after six hours of debate! And it seems discussion of the impact of exiting the EU was pretty low on the agenda. Immigration was also low down on Leaver’s agenda. It took the hate preachers, Farage and UKIP, to pour poison into the wells.

@danarose6314 So you want martial law to be imposed and then anoint Nigel Farage as the "Eternal Leader" of a united KGB?
3
@luisbustamante9869 Unfortunately sir, you are sadly right!!

@normanspringett4659 How did the EU performed during negotiations that made you perplexed, perturbed, nonplussed, even discombobulated ?
2
@sweetdreams3659 Canada never left the EU either. Neither have the USA and Japan. They are being all kept in the EU as a massive global conspiracy!!
2
@normanspringett4659 So you have absolutely no idea how the EU performed during negotiations ! You have no examples or evidence. It was a baseless claim.
2
@anthonybartlett6924 By that logic then you keep voting for the party that gives even less of a toss for the working class,. How can wealth persuade poverty to use its political freedom to keep wealth in power? Here lies the whole art of Conservative politics in the 20th century . Nye Bevan , 1952
2
@fredholmes6284 OK, so reason enough then to increase import duties, roaming charges, end freedom of movement, and ERASMUS, introduce visa controls because these are not benefits to the immobile gammons, are they?!

If your definition of success is "nothing like the Armageddon", then "yeah, SUCCESS!!!!!" If however, your criteria are based on what leaders of the Leave campaign were promising, back in 2016: lower prices in shops; lower gas prices; higher wages; tariff-free trade with the EU involving minimal bureaucracy, not to mention, the famous bus slogan, and the Northern Ireland border remaining ‘’absolutely unchanged’’ , then it is an entirely different outcome.

@steveturner6770 Capitalism is a rigged game. It was naive to think that Brexit would financially benefit anyone other than the wealthy finance class.

The tale of two men who bet on the pound. One makes a fortune and starts a foundation to help young people from developing countries. The other one also makes a fortune, but hides it. This one is sneakier as he projects himself as a "man of the people". He is a reactionary and protects the interests of the capitalist class. The problems of society: low wages, insufficient housing he blames on the more vulnerable members of society. It is he who is hero-worshipped by the the capitalist class, as well as by the vicious reactionary mob. However, the man using his money to help young people is the one vilified by that same vicious reactionary mob. There is only one who poisons the wells, thereby weakening the resistance of the peasants.

Which party is of the future? A party that can harness our economy, our environment, free of the corruption.

@joycegibbs5267 Your fear and paranoia is well on point.

The will of the people . As soon as a choice between more than two simple alternatives is involved, there is often no clear answer to the question of what a majority favours. And because governments have to interpret the results of referendums, the will of the people becomes a means for strengthening executive control - the exact opposite of what appealing to the people’s will seemed to imply.

@normanspringett4659 Explain how the EU performed during negotiations. To my mind, Šefčovič has been excellent in having to deal with ill-prepared UK ministers, and Sabine Weyand is nothing short of an impeccable negotiator and diplomat. On the UK side, in May 2016, "Boris" Johnson compared the EU to the Third Reich - that is even before talks began! A man that disrespects others and expects to be respected.

@sweetdreams3659 Do you live in the "real world"? No conspiracy: the summit in Cornwall last year was a meeting of the G7: of which consists of the seven countries: Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States, and the EU. Being in the G7 is no indication that you are also in the European Union! It's unbelievable that I even have to spell this out. It is no wonder that conspiracy theories spread so easily, when "there is one born every minute."

What about the dictatorship of the 37 percent of the electorate?

@jules2545 When a country uses FPTP (the only other country in Europe that uses it is Belarus) it cannot really complain about the lack of democratic accountability. EU parliament elections are based on PR. After the last election in 2020, the Brexit Party had 29 MEPs which was three times more than the entire representation of Slovak Republic had (13), yet still complained about the "lack of democratic accountability". What evidence do you have to support this claim?
1
@jules2545 The parliament has 705 members that debates and votes on issues. What evidence or examples do you have to support your claim?
1
@jules2545 That is no answer. How can you justify the claim that EU parliament just rubber stamps everything the commissioners decide . Or is it just another KGB baseless claim that is supposed to elicit the unthinking reply, "yeah, you're right!"? So again, evidence or examples of what you mean.
1
@jules2545 I know, I live there. The government in SK is nowhere near as corrupt as the UK government. Basically, you have no support to your claim about the European Parliament. People making baseless claims to support a right-wing agenda, might as well have come from a troll farm in St. Petersburg. Putinista!!
1
@jules2545 I would ask you to justify why I am a hypocrite but it would be more false claims, bluster and "all sound and fury, signifying nothing",
