It amuses me that the UK is out of the EU. Why would you be sick of the EU? How does the EU affect you ? It has more effect on a Swiss person, and they don't moan and groan about the EU. The UK exited the EU, the Customs union and the single market. Perhaps you wanted a harder Brexit, because crime, defence and aviation safety are not of no concern to you. You won, get over it, and move on!

That's the "lack of sovereignty" argument. If the UK had lost its sovereignty, how did it leave the EU? What evidence do you have that it is a massive European superstate ? Claims need supporting.

@Goober-o3n With respect these are research questions for a thesis rather than evidence to support a claim. Can you not give anything specific examples? How does leaving the EU benefit people in the UK? Can you give three benefits of exiting the EU? Can you choose how much tax you pay? Or is it decided by a government budget? For the contributions to the EU, it much the same: in the 2021 budget nine EU members contributing more than they got out, eighteen got out more than they contributed. As for the EU pact on migration and asylum, nothing has yet been decided, so the claim that the EU will tell each member how many migrants they now must take into their country is as yet unfounded. The aim is to establish a new solidarity mechanism amongst Member States to balance the current system where a few countries are responsible for the vast majority of asylum applications, and clear rules on responsibility for asylum applications . Is this to control member states as part of a global super state conspiracy, or attempt to make it a fairer and equal system of dealing with asylum applications?

@StevenLewis-z6c What do you mean by a _ utopia compared to everything that's gone before_ . This is not a utopia! How would it be different to the EU? Would it mean a loss in sovereignty? And why these countries? Is Iceland an easier and bigger market than say the Netherlands? Explain please! The UK had more benefits than many of the countries that joined later. For example, the UK used to and Ireland still choose, on a case-by-case basis, whether or not to adopt EU rules on immigration, visa and asylum policies .

@StevenLewis-z6c A reality dodging Brexiteer thinking I am an “absolute weirdo” is something I can live with! Utopia can never be realised because if it did it wouldn’t be utopia . As Wilde put it in The Soul of Man under Socialism_, _A map of the world that does not include Utopia is not worth even glancing at, for it leaves out the one country at which Humanity is always landing. And when Humanity lands there, it looks out, and, seeing a better country, sets sail. Progress is the realisation of Utopias . Being a pedagogue, and having studied and taught in Sweden for years you have touched on a specialist area. The highest ranking European education systems according to PISA ranking are Estonia and Ireland. Estonia incidentally has a remarkably low number of private schools, and in Finland, which is admired for its being the “best in Europe”, private education is “banned”. So the two countries that have the lowest proportion of private schooling have the best education systems. In these countries, there is greater equality, and all children have a high standard of education, no matter their socio-economic background. Maybe you should consider this for your European utopia. So you mention countries with the best prison system, education system, the highest gender equality, and the happiest people, but how exactly does having perseverance translate into a utopian framework? Is it that the British can wait 50 years to see the economic benefits of Brexit? At least this is what Rees-Mogg urged us to do!

That is why the Welsh left for Pantagonnia, the Pigrims to America: to be amongst people like them! You can leave and live in the EU, you have the freedom ... hold on, you voted that away! You think it is rational to reverse the changes of the last 60 years? Such is the mind of the reactionary!

@jamesmatheson5115 So then you also want a leadership that is willing to shed blood for their country: people like Boris Johnson would readily sacrifice their lives, would they? Richard Tice? As Wilfred Owen quoting Horace said, the old lie : Dulce et decorum est Pro patria mori (it is a beautiful and noble thing to die for one's country). Nationalist populism whips people up into a frenzy of demonising vulnerable groups, looking for outside threats, dividing people, whilst all the time solidating their power, wealth, and support.
